Forgive the digression from nautical but reckoned some good ideas would be available here - I have a new front door quite a thick veneer over a engineered timber core (solid bits of wood not chipboard goo - upper mid range but not solid oak) The ends & sides (sorry chippies) are solid but have had remove 250 Mml from bottom (long story- but that's where I am) & this exposes the core. Planning to fit a solid oak weatherboard to the bottom of the door to deflect any rain & seal the bottom of door. Before this is attached any good ideas on how best to seal the exposed edge. Rest of frame & door is varnished & was thinking of varnishing the exposed (1st coat thinned to penetrate) core maybe an epoxy (or even sikaflex) as well.
Thanks as ever.
