Sealing SC29 / S28 drying out

Surely if the leg is up the stainless rod is mostly enclosed inside the the cylinder body and protected from accretions.
Its when the leg is down that the entire rod is exposed and vunerable to barncules etc ?
When the outdrive is subsquently raised with any growth attached, it then damages the seals ?
Would suggest that a visit at low water to your drying harbour is in order.
Lots of other outdrive boats present suggests everything should be OK, if none, probably for very good reason.
A hard sandy bottom is a completely different kettle of fish to lovely soft muddy bottom.
Vast numbers of outdrive boats survive on drying berths in the South East bit of UK.

Its the other way round,

here's a very dirty outdrive leg up

and the same, now much cleaner leg down

the piston ram is clearly seen exposed with the leg up which lets accretions attach, then when the leg is dropped these can tear the piston seals, at least that's what happened to mine.

yep that is the common issue with these rams left in the water :(

Wished someone had told me earlier ???
