Sealing heads pump pipes - Sikaflex?

Morning Folks

I have just installed a new Whale Mk V black water pump into my heads, and now find the connecting pipes are leaking (even with a jubilee clip).

Is there any compound that I can use to help create a better seal? I am sure Sikaflex would do it, but that might be a little extreme and hard to remove if the pump needs servicing again.

Your thoughts would be most welcome.

Paul

I would suggest upgrading your hose clamps. There is evidently a slight mismatch between the OD of the pump fittings, and the ID of the hose. The reinforcing wire/band in the hose is preventing the clamps from squeezing the hose down, and jubilee clips can't exert enough force.

JCS HiGrip clamps are my preference over jubliee clips or other normal types, but in your case i'd go all in and use Mikalor Supra Clamps (Link)

I wouldn’t seal - I occasionally use some PTFE but mostly rely on 2 new jubilee clips. I like hoses to be quick to change as I do it every couple of years as we use a holding tank so the pipe is usually full of sewage as you want to minimise the amount of sea water you pump in.

2 clips on either side of the pump? 4 in total?

UPDATE

Morning all.

I have fixed the problem by plunging the pipes ends into boiling water. This made them very soft and pliable. I then used the old hose clips and made sure they were very tight.

The heads pipes are now fully sealed and the system is working beautifully.

Thanks for all your advice

Paul
