Sealing GRP

Hi All, I want to install shore power outlet at the back of the boat. After I cut the hole for the outlet what is the best way of sealing the the edge of the hole?

just bolt the socket plate over it with a gasket or sealant

I used sealant and the gasket that came with the socket which has been water tight so far. Mask off the area around it before the sealant though otherwise it'll be a bit messy
