Sealing fuel tank query

I have removed the flat steel diesel tank tops and cleaned out the tank. Ordered a 25mm wide strip of solid Neoprene to make new seals. What do I need to do to ensure a seal between the two horizontal strips and the two transverse strips? Add a bit of goo, such as Hylomar Universal Blue, where the strips join?

Liquid neoprene, try Googling liquid electrical tape, also brilliant at what its meant for.

I have been down this road before and found that the neoprene breaks down after a while. The last time I cleaned the tanks I used a product called CT1from sealantsand toolsdirect.co.uk and it has never leaked and that is 6 years now

Neoprene is not the best elastomer to resist diesel fuel and will not have a long life. Nitrile would be a better choice. Instant Gasket and similar products seem to be mostly silicone based but the CT1 already mentioned should be a good substitute, along with many of the hybrid polymers.

I've sealed my tank with a 2mm cork nitrile gasket c/w Hylomar red which was cheap and, so far, effective. Both components are derv resistant.
