Hi Folks,

I'm sanding the hull of my sailboat in preparation for antifouling and I've noticed that the groove between the hull and the keel has the remains of some kind of sealant in it. It could do with renewing, so what would people recommend (if anything) is used.

Thanks

Simon

Puraflex PU40 from Toolstation £5.25. it's a high modulus polyurethane sealant like Sikaflex only cheaper. Best if you can take out the old stuff to 10mm depth and apply the new whilst the boat is hanging in slings.

As ghostlymoron says, but use proper polyurethane primer first which should always be used with a pu sealant or it just comes unstuck on one side.
Sealing whilst boat is sat on its keel means the weight of the boat is compressing the joint and not the ideal scenario.
Hanging from strops means the keel is in its natural position and its possible then to see if there is any movement between the keel and the boat.

OOps, just seen the date on this post...
