A few Sealine related questions.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I figure SC42 was built by UK factory (now closed) and S450 built by new owners abroad but otherwise, the same boat. Am I right ?

If one was to consider a purchase SC42 (nearly new) from a dealer then it comes without manufacturers support, right ?

There is 100k difference between the two so how much is "manufacturers warranty" worth?

Same applies to the F42 / F450?

Do the new brand owners have a good track record for build quality and after sales support ?

That's broardly correct, although Sealine UK did start the rebranding excercise before collapse (see the S380). Best way is to check the original bill of sale as this will confirm where it came from

That is again correct. Though if it is a dealer stock boat they will be obliged to provide some warranty

Dont forget the manufacturer only really made the hull and deck and soft furnishings. The engines will be covered by the engine manufacturer, and most of the bolt on bits (windless, cookers, toilets etc) will have their own manufacturer warranty. The difference is you will have to persue them independantly rather than having the boat manufacturer to do that for you. A manufacturers warranty is worth a bit, but you are also looking at a difference between a new boat and a used one.

Pretty much

Do the new brand owners have a good track record for build quality and after sales support ?
Hanse are a big group, who own many brands including Hanse, Moody & Fjord. I have never dealt with them after a purchase but certainly Moody and Fjord are high end products whcih will likely have demanding clients. I have never heard anything bad about their aftersales care

Stupid rule about adding characters

Cozzy, the new builders, Hanse, have a great reputation for boat building. In terms of after sales, this is generally more down to the dealer than the manufacturer. Best check the Hanse/Sealine web site for dealer info, and take it from there. As you are going to SIBS, you will find out more info there, where it is usual for the stand to be supported by the builder and dealers.

Whitelighter: yup, pretty much in line with my thoughts. Past experience dictates that it is the dealer who chases up the various OEMs to sort warranty issues. However, I have intimate knowledge of a manufacturer taking way too long to sort out hull issues despite the fact that the dealership was owned by said manufacturer :-/

Thanks for comprehensive response.

Rafiki: as above and I will check them out at SIBS.

I like the F42 / F450. They seem good value v Squadron 42 and Princess 43. SO loves the look of S42 so it will be an interesting show.

The next issue will be pods v shafts. Oh dear :-/

I watched an F46 moor yesterday. It looked so easy on the pods. However, I still have an aversion to pods for the potential reliability and failure modes. I think they will be fine for the first couple of owners, but when they get to 8-10 years old, I should imagine a serious recon bill would be required. Happy to be proved wrong of course. :)

i tested the sc42 last week, but will wait for the f450 to be built again... such a good boat and a reasonable price compared to fairycess..i was told march 2015 they will be available so ready for next spring!!!

SC42 for me. Pretty much the same boat.
Sealine built good quality boats so pretty unlikely that you should have any problems.
If there is still a warranty on the OEM parts this should still stand I.e engines etc. the hull design and build quality on Sealine's is of a very high standard so should be less of a concern but ultimately it comes down to how risk adverse you are.
If it was in my means I would go for the SC42 and spend the difference on a 911 lol

BTW many thanks for the SIBS tickets

Yes, six months delivery in UK from order. Perfect timing for 2015.

I asked about the changes if any between the two models and basically the short answer is they are finished to Hanse standards. I don't know Hanse so cannot vouch for their build quality.

To be honest, and this is not saying anything against Hanse at all, but we do not want to be the guinea pigs so we might pass ;)

We bought our S38 new but unfortunately it wasn't one of their best built boats but maybe the 42 was one of the good ones. I don't know to be honest.

Glad the tickets found a good home :encouragement:

If the suppliers didn't get paid by Sealine, then do they need to honour the warranty? I don't know the answer, but it would be worth checking carefully if anyone was considering buying a UK built boat.

i have had 2 sealines a F34 which was faultless from new, and then a sc35 which was just awful...i would not buy another sealine unless Hanse had taken over as they seem to be a solid company with a good history. the reason for the delay on the f450 is they have re-designed the supports for the flybridge, so hopefully no more leaks.

The problem i have is in the 40-45ft range there is nothing to touch the accommodation of the sealine, if you look at the princess 42 its quite small in the cabins and on the flybridge , the fairline 42 is also no way near the size of the f450.

lets hope the new F450 is a quality boat as there is definatley a market for it!

The supplied parts, notably the engines, were covered subject to servicing compliance. Additionally the last boat left the factory in May 2013 and typically the parts have 2 year guarantees so even on the v latest boats there is only 6 months remaining on most components.

Jason,
I suggest you have a look at the Sealine forum -very friendly and helpful. You will definitely find an SC42 owner willing to tell you about their boat!
We have moved to an SC35 recently -a wonderful boat and no problems (so far.) I did look (seriously) at the new S330 and C330 but was a bit disappointed with the finish and have also been on an S380 (early in Hanse 's rein to be fair) that was awfully put together compared to the SC that we purchased (and was a lot older.) Hopefully Hanse has ironed out these issues as they do have a good reputation.

Thank you for your reply. We are going to see A new C390 tomorrow as they have heavily discounted the 2019 version and we thought it would be good to compare

I would decide based on the spec and condition.
If the spec is close to what you would have specified, and the condition excellent, then you can keep the Porker and enjoy reduced depreciation.
If you really want different options then it’s a factory order and an MX-5.
