I am now getting to grips with my new to me S43 with Tamd75 edc motors

The props are 4 blade 23x28 3/4 inch

The hull bottom is clean etc

Can any owners of this set up advise a general rule of speeds vs revs as I think its not giving as much thrust as I would expect. Feel free to correct me if you can.

The boat seems to pull max revs realy easily and just hits 30kn at wot.

I have a feeling she is underpropped which Is why I would like to benchmark against others with this boat and motor set up as to what it should do and if what I have underwater is right?

Also if anyone can confirm the correct props that should be fitted I would be gratful

Last question. As she hits 2680rpm with ease and cruises at about 21kn at 2200rpm would cupping the props be advisable? Or if wrong props will look to change them.

I expected a lower rev band for my normal 22kt cruise and had in my head a rpm of about 1900 so am a little dissapointed at the high revs.

All ideas greatfully recievd

I have TAMD 74p's in mine and at 1900rpm am cruising at 23 knots. I do know that some of the S 43 had cupped props (including mine) but had them removed due to problems with the shafts so wouldn't recommend going down that route.
I'm afraid I can't help with prop size as I haven't a clue what's fitted to mine.
Sorry I've not helped much.

When was the boat last pressure washed or antifouled?
A clen hull means pressure washed quite recently like within the last month, its surprising what a difference two or three months in the water makes in the summer.
What is WOT for 75's engines?
Normal cruise is 300rpm from advertised WOT assuming she is propped correctly.
Normally for a boat the sweet spot for cruising is normally about 22 knots speed /fuel consumption .
talk to Clements engineering, you will need to know ratio of the gearboxes.

2600 for the 75p. I'd suggest she is underpropped.
A while back a client of mine had same boat that had 2 sets of props as he bought it on the Hamble then used it on the Thames , I'm sure he kept one set when he sold the boat to Lanerboy , who then sold it on.
The previous owner may have bought the props fir the broads and now your the victim.
I've trailed a few shaft drive versions and the make 33 knots flat out at 2600 rpm that's clean and empty.

Ok thanks for that that confirms my thoughts and your experience is very much appreciated.

Can anyone advise what props they have or that should be on the S43?

Clements would be my first choice , go on the sealine forum and ask the size question.
Hamble props may also know .

Thanks VP have sent emails to both

Am amzed know one knows what should be fitted or what is fitted to other S43 boats as must be a common sizefor them all with that set hp. Would have thought an owner could advise

Have you tried over on the Sealine forum? S43 owners over there...

[edit] just noticed you have; hope you're successful!

A quick reply as we're sitting in Salcombe harbour with a rubbish internet signal.......Paul's quite correct about our props, but although I don't know the boat in question in this thread I can say that Lanerboy bought our S42 with the original std sea props put back on, I've still got the slightly depropped "river" props I had made still sitting in my garage.

I can certainly look and see what we had fitted as standard on our tamd75s once I'm back home..

I'll also have a photo of the dash showing revs, speed from the sea trial with Paul.

Hi Andy , hope your well.
I've spoken to Keith today the latest owner of your old S42 and unfortunately he doesn't have the info on the props.
I'm wondering if the surveyor who did the trail with us would have it, was his name David Hopkins from memory?

Yep, will dig out my old S42 file and see what I've still got.

Hi Paul, yeah all good here and on Hollywood, Hope the boat's still going well for that owner ? she was a lovely boat for us. Yep, David Hopkins was the guy, he was based in a unit in Port Hamble I think ??? But I'll see what I can find, am bound to have copies of some of it, thinking about it..... I'll look in my old emails later on and see if there's a copy from back then ? I'm pretty pretty certain we took my special order props off her for Lanerboy as she was coming back to coastal use so she should be back on the original fitment, unless of course anything's been changed since then.

Afraid AFAIK Hoppy has retired as a surveyor, not sure if he answers e-mails any more.

Ok, sorry but I've drawn a blank with any prop info in my email trail with that boat. I've got copies of the build cert and original invoice plus the survey from when we bought but none of it shows prop spec. Might still find something at home though.
Paul.... if any history like that is of interest to your guy let me know and I can forward it.
Cheers,

Andy

Ahhhh, I see a bit of useful historical info has come up from n old post of mine on Sealine forum re our S42.. it says I posted :

"S42 with twin Volvo TAMD75s. From the build sheets I can see that the Gearbox ratio is 1.65:1 and the standard props were 23" x 29.75" - 1.75" dia cupped. They are 4 blade. On the sea trial she was doing 5.3mph at tickover, and was running at 33knots at 2600rpm"
