Sealine S43 on eBay

We are thinking of selling our 2003 Sealine S43 and wondered whether it was worth putting her on eBay with a half sensible reserve.

Or am I going to be plagued with fender kickers looking to offer a pittance?

Would a broker or a private ad on boatshop24 be more productive bearing in mind the increased costs involved.

To be honest I would rather sell it £10k cheaper than line a brokers pocket.

Hi,Dave.tend to think that Ebay is really for lesser craft than the one you have.May be wrong but suspect that Ebay is for the last resort desperate seller or for somebody who just wants to get rid of something urgently.Would have thought all the free listings would be first call.
Loverly boat and a real peach of a buy for somebody.Good Luck.

Interesting comment - I can understand not wanting to use a broker in an effort to avoid the broakerage fees / reduce the price of the boat in order to generate a swift sale etc.

However, going through all the hassle of selling it yourself simply so that you are not going to line a brokers pocket seems a bit short sighted?
 
I have purchased and sold privately in the past so it holds no fears for me. I have never been convinced that at 8%+vat I am getting value for money from a broker. Some of them that I have tried to deal with when buying have been worse than hopeless. Never mind the financial risks of a third party holding my money when title has passed.

The poster also lives not far from his boat which is in first class pristine condition and kept somewhere with very easy access for any prospective viewer.
Suspect a broker will not bring anything to this sale other than exposure.
 
if I was you , I would put an add on ebay and then ask on here if the advert was ok :encouragement: :p , oh and if there is a big shiny anchor in the pic , it will run into 10 pages on here :rolleyes:
 
In June 2013 I advertised my Bav29 on Apollo Duck, Boatshop24 and Ebay. Got no replies from Ebay and Boatshop 24 but a steady trickle of enquiries from the Duck, and come October I found a buyer.
FWIW I advertised at a price approx. £2k lower than other Bav29s of the same 2004 vintage that were also advertised. I accepted an offer of approx. 90% of my asking price and will claw some £3k back by end of March 2014 by saving on berthing fees, Lift Out, AF, engine and OD servicing and insurance costs. Those other Bav29s are still advertised on the Duck at their original asking price. Meanwhile I am now enjoying contemplating what to buy next:)

that is a silly comment I sold my s37 last year via ebay it may not have been worth what your boat is but it was up at 95k I had 3 very interest parties all through ebay never had a single enquiry through yachtworld

It cost me 15 quid for 28 days advertising on ebay ran the ad for 2 months and it was sold, I set up a website and put the link on ebay this enabled me to get ebay viewers to look at my website which was a new site so quite a way down google

have a look at my website www.sealines37.com it cost me £15 for the domain name the 2 x £15 adverts total £45 and boat sold go for it what you got to loose

Blimey the Paypal commission must have been impressive. :)

Using your ebay advert to link to a seperate website is a somewhat more sophisticated path than "It sold via Ebay." would suggest.
Previous posters have had a somewhat less productive time selling boats on that site.

yes I understand what you mean but without ebay I don't think I would have sold my old boat as I never has a single enquiry through yachtworld well not as quick that's for sure. I had 3 people in all that were serious potential buyers and all 3 said they had found the boat via ebay I just linked the website to enable me to show more detail than ebay allowed me to do

also I bought the boat of ebay in 2012 so it does work if you do it right :D
 
Thing is with ebay is its an excellent point to start any search for anything you want/need to buy, its the first place most of us at work go to look for any parts we need.
Same with cars etc.
I have looked for sealine boats on ebya before, but the word sealine alone is not enough as you get stacks of other junk, but enter fairline and its mainly boats with the old yanks cars and some cheap power tools.

I agree pete with what you say it does make you wonder whats wrong with that boat

I advertised mine on ebay as a classified add so people could not bid on the boat it was purely a search engine to take them to my web page, worked for me 100% may not work for others but I think ogary sold a boat on there too very quickly
