Having a litle trippet on thursday to Weymouth to view an S37 1999 with Kad 42s, loks to be in nice condition but dont they all in the photos. Do any forumites have one and any views on the same. One concern is are 42s in this boat under powered or about right, we are not concerned with out and out speed normally we cruise around 22knots but would they be under strain in the S37.
Thoughts appreciated.

We have had one from new for 4 years and have covered a couple of thousand trouble free miles around the Med. Ours has the KAD43's so can't accurately comment on the KAD42's except that the S37 is a very well balenced boat and goes up on the plain very easily without needing any trim tab fiddling so I wouln't envisage any problems for you.
It's beamier than the equavalent Fairline, Sunseeker, Princess and in consequence provides lots of living space at the expense of a few knots. I gave mine an end of season blast and with a dirty bottom got 30knots which isn't bad.
No real problems to look for.
There don't seem to be very many for sale (I always scan the MBY adverts to try and get a feel for depreciation) but best of luck with your haggling.

I noticed the lack of this model for sale, when we bought the 328 there were at least 8 for sale in the UK. How many of these were made or is it a case of peeps hanging onto them long term?

Davido, we used to own a S37 with KAD44's. We only had it for a few months but did a couple of channel crossings in it and it was very reliable. Just about the only problems we had were a leaking shower which badly stained the saloon carpet (I think this is a known S37 prob) and a number of the overhead panels in the saloon continuously falling off
For me the biggest issue I had with the S37 was the noise from the engines at speed particularly with the canopy erected. I dont know whether this was specific to these engines and this boat but it was very unpleasant

Had one with KAD 44s. Fast, smooth, spacious, well thought out generally, but IMHO feels tacky. Nice light interior - lots of portholes, etc.

Second the shower problem - needs care with sealing and shower curtain, but nice to have it separate from the head. No problem with engine noise.

KAD44s gave bags of power, but 42/43s should be OK. Wouldn't want one with 41s.

Poor cockpit layout makes sunbathing a chore. Stern design looks odd, but actually allows you to walk right round with davits fitted.

It means that those that have bought them have stuck with them because either:
1.) They're totally happy with their boat
2.) They can't find an upgrade for reasonable money

On the current market, there are shedloads of S34's available, but only a handful of S38's (which wasn't massively diffierent from the S37). This doesn't mean that the S38 didn't sell, more that there is a glut of S34's whose owners have upgraded.

The only difficulty with buying a boat that is "good value for money" is that you have to repeat the excercise each time you change boats!

Ah yes! had the same problem. After much investigation it was the shower curtain...it actually isn't waterproof!!. Buy another domestic plastic curtain from anywhere trim it down a bit and the problem disappears.

I think your point is well made and accurate. I will always want a bigger boat, but I feel that an upgrade to say a 42 footer will cost me £100k and just give my guests (or my tender) a much nicer bedroom
