Hi

I have a Sealine S28, built 1998, with twin Volvo Penta KAD32 on outdrives (I believe are 290-DP).

I need to replace the props but not sure of the original size.

The current props are the newer J6, so likely the originals would have been A6 but do not wish to assume.

Does anyone know what the original A size would have been?

Also, does anyone have any experience with buying non VP props?

I am looking at buying from Keypart, does anyone have experience with buying their A series replacement props?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

Our S28 had A6 props fitted originally.
No experience with non-volvo props.
Outdrive will be DP-D or DP-E.
What happened to the J6’s ?

Thanks

The J6 props were already fitted when I bought her, but will rev to 4000 RPM under way, so appears to be under propped.

I am looking to switch back to A series.

What’s the top speed with half full tanks?
Anywhere near 34kts and I would leave “as is”.

The new J series is designed to replace the A and B series when both the inner and outer props need replacing.

When changing to J series propellers, the latest M16 or M20 cone kit must be used. A series propellers correspond to J series props; ie A6 changes to J6. When going from B series props to J series, add one number; ie B5 changes to J6.

J series are made from a special high-strength aluminium alloy with four layers of paint for corrosion protection

I get max 31 knots but that is at 4000 RPM.

Cruises at 22 to 24 knots at 3300 to 3400 RPM.

Okay. I'd agree that's a bit underpropped.
But being underpropped never killed a diesel engine, whereas being overpropped often does.

If you have money to burn to gain the extra 2-3 kts at WOT, then go for it :devilish:
