i currently have a regal 2250 but we want something that we can sleep on for the weekends big enough for 2 adults and 2 kids but without going to mad on the length. have been looking at the sealing s34 but not sure we can quite stretch to one of those so have been thinking about the s28. anybody got any thoughts or tips or other boat suggestions.
look forward to hearing from you all

S28 are good and popular boats but I would avoid the single engine ones.

Fairline Targa 28/39/30 is the obvious alternative, is marginally better built but slightly less roomy inside.

Both will be easy to sell on when the time comes.

I'm obviously a bit biased, but the S28 is a great boat - we often spend weekends away with three or four on-board.
"Best" engine choice is twin KAD32's, which will get you to 34kts+ on a good day.

The closest competitor to an S28 would be a Fairline Targa 30, which has the "sunpad" at the back. Which is fine if you want a sunpad at the back, but makes engine access a bit more tricky.

I don't understand that comment. The whole of the sunpad moulding raises hydraulically and access is completely unhindered. My criticism of the sunpad is that it takes up room in the cockpit and is only really suitable for midgets like my SWMBO.

Found a pic...

A slightly left field choice is the Sunline 31. This sleeps 4 comfortably, and 6 with a push, with 2 permanent double berths. We had one for 5 or 6 years, and really enjoyed her. Twin diesel, bigger cockpit than the S28, for similar money.

Ok, how about:
"The sunpad on the Fairline Targa 30 is particularly suited to midget sunbathers whose mechanical abilities extend to servicing engines. For those of larger stature, the engine bay of the S28 has plenty of space to work on the engines, because it was designed to also use the longer six cylinder blocks"

Think your old Sunline was beached on the Humber last weekend!

Excuse the laughing face but a friends teenage boy posted the picture on Farcebook!

I can live with that! Were S28's designed for a pair of 6 cyl diesels?

There were lots of options. Twin AD31's initially, then twin KAD32's, single six-cylinder KAD42/43/44, petrols etc.
Twin six-cylinder diesels weren't an option.

I quite like the Bavaria's equivalent to the S28.
You might even get a Bavaria 32 for similar money to the S28.

Functionally, there is nothing wrong with the Bavaria. But the interior woodwork looks like an assemblage of pre-cut parts that were wedged in place, and sealed with a mastic gun. The interiors of both the Fairline and Sealine both look like more effort was expended in their creation. Obviously, this isn't important to everybody, otherwise they would all have bought Fairlines and Sealines instead :)

thanks all for taking the time to reply, think we will need to make a list and have a look around the marinas for nice owners and take a look on board a few, i def don't want to go for something too slow as our present regal is not super quick but does move along really nicely so don't want to feel like we are plodding along every time we go out. the interior space is going to be a big issue for us as i am 6,3" so need something that will feel comfortable to sleep on which is our main aim. keep the replies coming and boat suggestions please

Not many about, but we have a Mustang 2800 sports cruiser and love it.
Great sea boat, comfy double bed under the sole, economical and pretty good looking to boot!

We have the S28 (2005 variant with KAD32's) and as per FP we're ever so slightly biased towards the boat, in our 3rd season and has been very good for our boating needs.. I'd post a link to an article in a recent edition of an online magazine that gave a decent review of the S28 but it'd be wrong to do so on a YBW forum, happy to PM you the link though.

I have an S28, but for a family with two kids I think the layout of the previous 290 works better. It has two singles in the mid cabin, perfect for the kids, rather than the double of the S28 and Targa 28/29/30.
The 290 Is a slightly bigger boat, is available with twin 200hp Ad41s and can be bought for less money than the S28 and Targas. Ok it is an older boat, and looks a bit dated alongside the others, but still worth considering.

Targa 30 has singles in the mid cabin and the base can be moved across to make a double. Pretty certain this is the case for the T28/29 too.

Yeah you are right about the 30, it's been a while since I have been on one, but i'm sure the 28/29 is a double. Maybe they were all just set up as doubles when I was looking at them. Any current owner on here care to put the record straight.
