Hi I have just had a survey done and the surveyor said to install an Automatic FE-36 Clean Agent Firee Extinguisher in the engine compartment and this is fine but need to know the are of the engine bay.

I was going to install the following 2kg Automatic FE-36 Clean Agent Fire Extinguisher this fire extinguisher has a sprinkler head so can reach a wider surface area when extinguishing. The 2kg product provides protection for a maximum volume of 3.4 cubic metre area.

Does anyone know if this is big enough or know what actual size of an S28 1998 Engine bay is.

Many thanks

Roughly it is about 2.5m across (average), 1.5m front to back and an average of about 1.2m deep. Obviously the engines themselves take some of the volume away, probably about 0.75m3 each, but I would always want to over spec, rather than be just on the limit, as there are plenty of leaks.

Also don't forget that the bathing platform is a big void within the engine bay and not sealed off, so you will need to add that to the calculation. Just recently I did all this for my S24 and the size was approx. 2.4m2 (from memory as notes are at home), I didn't deduct the engine. So I would guess that 3.4m2 might be sufficient. But to be honest, if it was me I would double check before purchasing FE36, if you get it wrong it might affect your insurance.
