Hi can anyone tell me what batteries to buy for a 1994 sealines240 .
I would like to know what size to buy and amp power needed ,number of batteries and terminal configurations.
The boat is a 1994 Sealine s240, mercruiser 4.3 petrol
Many thanks

Our SL 240 had two batteries in the plastic boxes mounted on the port side of the engine space. I would recommend identifying which battery is which and mark the boxes for future reference. I suggest a 100ah engine start battery for the engine and a 100-120ah leisure battery for the domestics like lights etc on the SL.

Please try to avoid taking the domestic battery down below 50% state of charge (SoC) as this will shorten its life. If you do occasionally, then its not the end of the world so long as you give it a really good charge straight away either by running the engine for some hours, or use a shore power charger if one is fitted.

RV Tech Library - Battery Charge Voltage

If I was asked to recommend a make, then Varta or Numax will do nicely. You will notice that many of them are remarkably similar just with different labels on them. Also descriptive words like deep cycle, premium, heavy duty etc, are just marketing hype. True deep cycle batteries are going to cost considerably more and you probably don't need them.

I think you mean ah, not A Pete ?

Engine start battery only needs to be a basic starter battery, best quoted in CCA or MCA

Hi there thank you for the information.
I had moved house nearly two years ago and had to leave my boat at the previous marina ,which is a couple of hundred miles away.
I should have photographed the batteries but didn't think to do it last time,I went to check it.
I have a feeling that there are 2 batteries to port and one to starboard.

I can't remember where the terminals are on the batteries,I don't want to get batteries that by terminal position ,are to far for the battery wiring to reach if that makes sense.
I need to recommission the boat ,I know the batteries will be shot, and I will need a new boat safety certificate also, o dear !

From memory there used to be manuals for Sealine available but it seems they are not anymore. Thanks Liz
