Hi all, some friends are looking at their first cruiser and an S23 seems to be a good choice. Budget is £30-35k and they're looking for a boat capable of trips from Poole to Solent and maye a bit further. Needs to sleep 2 adults and 1 sub 10 year old.

Want something easy to sell on (relatively speaking) and no older than a 2000/2001 boat.

Any views on an S23 would be appreciated please. PLenty available for about £35k with Kad 32. Particularly interested in how and if you can fit davits/dinghy

Thanks

EBY have a Maxum 2700SE diesel at £38k, much more boat for the money IMHO, wish I could have got one for that price when I bought my Mustang.

Hi- I have had an S23 for 3 years and very pleased with it.

We spend a 2 week long holiday on it each year for the 2 of us plus dog and am sure it would be fine for two plus one.

Build quality is good and good seakeeping for it's size. Furthest we have done in a day is 100 nm from Milford to Car diff with a stop and Falmouth to Salcome (about 60nm) non stop.

One of the reasons we chose the sealine was the mix of accomodation, the ability to trialer it and the good galley (best we saw on a boat this size and essential for staying on pontoon islands etc or at anchor).

Happy to answer more detail questions- if you pm me I'll give you an email address

I have my S23 for almost a year now and have clocked up 300+ hours - I love it

For the price, it's a well built boat compared to some of it's rivals - I've looked at this boat inside out and honestly can't fault the build

Most of the time it's just myself and the girliefriend but we've had a few onboard plenty of times... Think we had 8 on it one night drinking JD /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If you're getting one try to make sure it has an air heater - makes the boat nice and toasty

Any particular questions just ask

There is an S23 on the opposite side of our pontoon, it has a dinghy on the back, so yes it must be possible.

Oh, it has a 'For Sale' sign on it too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Nothing to do with me, just mentioning it!

240 Senator = S240 = S24
S23 = S25 ... not the same as S240/S24

Ah yes I'm thinking of the S230 which =S240 =S24
The S23 came after the S25 (I think)
Great bit of Sealine marketing to confuse the customer!!

we to own a S23 (our first boat), and as mentioned by others on here, it is a great boat.
One thing we noticed when looking to buy along with other similar american boats was that the storage is so much better on the sealine. Plenty of under seat storage in the cabin, but also there was a lot more cupboard space and draws compared to the rivals, something we both really appreciate.

as with others on here, feel free to get in touch if you need any additional info.

It is in fact the same boat. Just rebadged. I've driven more S23/S25's then I care to remember!

Yup, this was a major factor into my buying. In both the cabin and the cockpit there's nice big cubbards, very practical.

Also, the galley for a 25ft boat is excellent as it has a huge sink (that can actually be used) and hot water

We had the s240 & although never had the s23/25 know what good use of space sealine build into it's smaller range.
To categorise I would say that most rival builders build a sports boat at 25ft, sealine on the other hand place more emphasis on a cruising boat which is why its unbeatable in it's class.

Thanks to everyone for your responses, the S23 seems well thought of. I agree on the accommodation, it does feel more of a cruiser than sportsboat - galley particularly good.

Any comments on performance with a Kad 32? Will a mid 20's cruise be achievable at 80% revs?

Thanks again, i will pass your comments on

I can get as low as about 15knots on the plane with tabs fully down

I cruise at about 22knots which I think is about 3000/3100 RPM which is 75% throttle

31knots WOT

Yep i'd agree with that - that's where we usually sit when cruising.
