Looking at the photos on the cover of MB&Y, does anyone know what the rectangular hole is on the hull of the F42 just above the boot top under the second port light? It looks to be about a foot long, 4" high and about the same depth. Did someone accidentally leave a housebrick in the mould?

Yes, but what is it? On the big slab sided car transporters we pass in Southampton, they recess bollards into them for (presumably) the tugs, oilers and garbage handling barges to tie up to. The F42 is slightly too small to need that...

Yes on the large ships these 'holes' contain a bollard or similar for service boats to use.

On the 42 I thought the mesh cover had fallen off that covers a vent hole!

The location is odd unless its a galley or head fan vent but on my boat I have these and the vent is piped through the saloon and out through the cockpit area.

maybe you are right someone left a brick on the mould. Will look next week

Shame the Cats / Zeus are unavailable on this boat

Still surprised by this as Sealine is a Brunswick company, so I am surprised no ZF Zeus. Altough ZF is not owned by Brunswick there have been big coperation between the two.

I must admit that the F42 being with pods also runs very neat and low. Someone finally is noticing that on this size and even smaller if you have a fine entry is ok to be more medium aft.

Other than being cheaper to purchase, I struggle to understand what CAT C7 would have to offer over Volvo D6 435 or CMD QSB 480's and perhaps hull shape does not suit Zeus.

The MB&Y peeps said the Zeus was too big for the boat.

Its the best of this techn to date and I feel S/L may miss a trick here if they failed to make sure it would be available and /or making sure hull shape was correct too.

F46 was great fun to drive

A properly engineered engine fit for purpose.

I will never buy another volvo engined boat....

not a 100% sure, but, i think its the aircon outlet ... BUT im more than happy to be proved wrong

I quote from the preview pricing and options brochure:

"The enhanced black water discharge system replaces the standard pump-out fitting, and consists of a software upgrade to IPS and an additional 5000gph pump. When active, the pump outlet can be vectored using the joystick horizontally or vertically through 90 degrees, and has an adjustable nozzle with three operating modes: Autumn Mist, Hydrant, and Pulse Cannon."

Your views are obviously based on bitter experience, however if you are looking for a properly engineered engine fit for purpose this phrase does not fit the CAT C7.

3116/3126/C7 family has as I have described before has had a colorful history, not only is the base motor design full of holes, the HUEI fuel system was always a solution looking for a problem with that darn great injector mandating a compromised three not four valve head. The engineers who did the marinisation must have slept though endless meetings. 3126 had at one time an exhaust riser actually designed to fill turbo with seawater, and as for an alternator belt which requires removal of the harmonic balancer to change out is plain nuts.

On the positive side CAT have given outstanding levels of support in an effort to mitigate the dismal failings of their engineers. CAT have a great reputation in the 800 to 1,400 Hp node, 3208 used to be a highly regarded motor for years, 3126/C7 pretty much destroyed their credibility to the point where in the U.S vessels with small CAT engines are very difficult to sell. Sealine will certainly know where CMD QSB will be going at Tier III emissions, will certainly get the 6.7 block likey with well over 500 Hp available, all in a similar size to current package. C7 will never get its feet on the pedals at this power level.

I am no green engine fan, however like them or loathe them the Volvo D6 is a fine engine design and in this power node D6 and CMD QSB are the benchmarks particularly since Yanmar dropped the ball with the LYA3.

Not sure I understand why Zeus package will not fit in a 42 ft boat, however I find it hard to become too excited about driving boats with gears in light alloy casings immersed in sea water under or for that matter or out the back, perhaps that is silly prejudice.

Wow - how neat is that

jfm should get the Autumn Mist as would look fab with the underwaterlight show to music.

Pegs on nose though.

Imagine Pulse Cannoning your potoon neighbour after a dispute.....

Oooh, there have been many times when I've wanted one of those. Is it a retrofit:)

I do hope so! Much batter than the present system of letting it back up till it comes out of the breather and then hoping you can get enough pressure from the pump handle...

BTW, I reckon that cutout must be for the passarelle. Specially designed for UK alongside mooring...
