The last 2 times out the port battery light, the one on a strip with the oil/battery/temp and warning buzzer has come on in bursts. The volt and amp meter does not alter when this is does it so I don't think it has anything to do with the altenator. When it first happend I checked the battery terminals and found the top of the battery was wet I suppose through condensation so I dried it and renewed the connections putting a smear of vaselene on before bolting them up.I though this had cured it but it did it again.Has any one any suggestions ?

there probably isn't much wrong - I think you have a dodgy connection from the alternator to the dash board bits. If you go through the harness connections I suspect you will find a slack 1/4 spade connector - either replace it or nip it with some pliers to renew the contact pressure. If you have it or can get it use some electrical contact cleaner (try maplins) at the same time as you go through them all. Tedious to solve but cheap

Thanks for that sounds like a good idea.
