sealine 330 statesman

Hi all.
We are interested in buying a larger boat, and like the Sealine 330 statesman with Volvo diesel engines/outdrives with duo props, I have viewed a few, and have found one with twin AD31/DP 150HP 4cyl turbo, I have now been told these are under powered in rough weather (force 5/6).
Is there a major difference between the AD31/DP and the twin Volvo AD41/DP 200HP 6cyl turbo.?
Does the weight of the 6cyl engines counteract their higher HP ?
Thanks
Geoffrey

150hp Too small, have you looked at one with the 170hp Mercruisers? Better economy, not a great deal less torque than the 200hp Volvo's and as much as £10,000 cheaper on a second hand Statesman 330.
I spent about 6 months looking at the 330 Statesman but I decided that the Flybridge is not very 'useable' so we began to look at 350s and 360s you can get a 350 Statesman for not much more than a 330 and you get a shaft drive.
We have just bought a F36 although it was more than we wanted to spend it (I hope will be worth it)

Thanks Moose
Thanks for the info, how do you feel about the F36 flybridge, is it 'useable'? maybe this is the boat we should be considering.

F36 better because you can get 4-6 people up there opposed to 3 on the 330 also sitting upon the flybridge in the evening you are not sitting on a bench seat, instead you can all face each other. Plus the galley is on a lower level to the living room area so you are not squeezing past the person slaving over the oven! so in effect the galley becomes a seperate part of the boat whereas on the 330 if someone is at the galley you can't squeeze past them unless they move back to where the table is.
Little things but they could wear you down eventually.

We have never been out in a force 5/6, yet, it was a comment made to us by an RYA instructor who had owned the smaller engined version.

I think this subject has been covered a few months ago with the concensus being to forget about the 330 and stump up for the much superior F36. I owned one of the 330's predecessors, the 305 (substantially the same boat), many moons ago and it was comfortably the worst boat I've ever had. As it happens, mine had AD31's and I would'nt call it underpowered but, then, I would'nt recommend you went anywhere near the boat in a F5/6 either.
The major problem with this boat is that it is a flybridge boat with outdrives, the vast majority of flybridge boats being shaft drives and the hull is relatively short for a flybridge boat. The flybridge makes the boat very susceptible to side winds when manouevering in a marina and I found the boats behaviour at sea a liitle alarming with a few people on the flybridge. I know the amount of accomodation looks good for the price but my advice would be to look elsewhere
