can anyone advise the best thing to replace whatever was here under the rubbing stake on a Broom Crown 36?
Lifted out of water for winter and saw this and want to get it sealed up once dry weather comes back.
all advice or product links appreciated.
This brings back memories!!!
I did this on my 27 footer.. Believe the original sealant is something called Raliseal. It is cold mixed in a tub.. Unfortunately it comes in drums and not really suitable for the DIYer.
I removed all the cracked sealant but I was left with a large gap over 25mm x 15mm – that’s a lot of sealant tubes. I used over a dozen.
Mine wasn’t structural so I used Caulking Cotton twisted together and put into the gap to “fill” with the first “run” of sealant. Then I smoothed off the finished layer with sealant tools.
memories!!
Take a screwdriver, sharpen the end and bend at 90 degrees..... to rake out the worst of the crumbly stuff.
I use Screwfix Nemesis seal & grab but it seems to be no longer available.... CT1 or equivalent, NOT silicone.
Squirt into the gap and build it up, scrape flush and then finish with a wet finger or sealant tool to give a smooth finish.
NOTE: retain the drainage slots, they are supposed to be there, otherwise excess water will flow into the boat and mark the upholstery (dont ask how I know!)
Used about a dozen tubes on 31' boat
