I have a cracked alloy mast step being repaired by welding (bolted to a steel jig to keep its shape and dimensions!)
Next comes its re-fit, and I would welcome advice on the best sealant to use between it and the coachroof: to be both stiff and watertight when cured.
I'm sure there must be good experience out there. Thanks, in anticipation.

Sikaflex is generally regarded as a good sealant. Dearer than ordinary Silicon but good stuff.

Thanks for inputs.
I have used some Sikaflex and know it bonds well: too well!
The mast step may have to come off again sometime, which is why I am looking for a seal which is watertight but not too difficult to separate.
Maybe the best bet is a neoprene gasket and a water-repellent synthetic grease?

I have just spent 3 (three) days separating my cockpit sole which was bedded on sealant.

I managed not to damage the gelcoat too much! When separating sealant it adheres so much that it binds to the grp. Incredible properties!

Be careful/sparing if you use Sika. You dont need much.
