Sorry if this has been posted before, but I was very impressed by how well the gyro did it’s job.

Any idea which Seakeeper they have installed? Any views on the installation?

Modern Gyros are amazing I have used them in many model aircraft that I fly and they work very well indeed. No idea of cost however on a big boat

It could be that your model aircraft are a lot bigger than mine, but my R/C heli doesn’t contain a 350kg rotating wheel that takes 20 minutes to spin up :)

Instead it has a little electronic box also called a “gyro” that has some sort of orientation sensor inside, that controls the flight surfaces to make the helicopter much more stable and easier to fly.

If you're referring to the fact that it seems to be installed off centre, thats perfectly permissible and on a medium sized boat its almost inevitable that its going to take up precious engine bay space and restrict access to some components. Having installed a Seakeeper this year on my own boat I can say that a gyro is at its most effective when the boat is stationary ie at anchor and its effectiveness reduces as speed increases. So if youre looking for stabilisation under way, its probably better to look at fins

Seems Seakeeper has dominated the market but personally I am perfectly happy with my cheaper and simpler Quick gyro on my P43.

How about posting some pics? And would you share information on the costs and time for purchase and installation as I'm sure there would be interest from others?

appart from seakeeper and Quick,
yesterday at Mets, I saw at least 2 new gyro stabs brands

also quite a few new electric fin stab solutions ao from Naiad, ABTTrack, new small model from CMC, and a few others

sorry I didn't note the names,

+1.

Regarding stabilisation at rest vs. underway; a difficult one but I think that for kind the boating we do, I'd prefer a gyro over fins (given a big enough boat and thus a proper choice). A lot of different scenarios of course as to what is best and when but ultimately, and purely intuitively, I'd prefer good stabilisation at rest and displacement speeds, as when going at planing speeds, everybody expects the boat to bounce around. You are seldom 'caught out' by waves.
