seahouses harbour

Nice to hear you are well and truly in Gods Country.
I've spent a few days/nights in Seahouses and it is a fine place, if you ignore the amusements and the large caravan site.
The inner harbour is for commercial boats and the trip boats, lie inside to the north seawall.
Normally plenty of alongside berths in a pleasant little used harbour with most shops you could need and plenty of pubs some really good in particular the 'Olde Ship'.
Last time I spent a night there the night was spent watching a car and driver being lifted from the harbour bed following someone thinking they were Sterling Moss, with a rather too much ale onboard, and not quite making the corner.
Well worth a stop if you don't mind tourists!
Enjoy.
The next port of call MUST be Holy Island - WOW

currently on a drying mooring in Holy island harbour

fourth night

had some great sailing

tried to get to Farnes today

too windy and we had non sailing guests on board so we just sailed around the sculpture

http://www.keepturningleft.co.uk/blogs/sailing-the-sculpture/

so will the harbour master tell me where to moor up or do you have advice

I like to be aground for as long as possible (but not get neaped of course

planning to look at the farnes in the morning and then spend a night in seahouses totop up on supplies

I am told that Berwick is not very good for visiting yachtsmen but that Eyemoth is worth a visist.

You're under-estimating the Farne Is a bit giving them a whole morning when you spent several years in muddy ditches further south.

ERMMMM,
To go to the Farnes (Seahouses) you turn RIGHT from Holy Island or have you a major plan alteration in mind :p
Ok seriously, this is a fabulous area and please keep it quiet!! you have the picture on your blog of St. Cuthbert's island (the one with the cross on it) I reckon this is the best area of the UK bar none.
When you go to Seahouses simply pick a berth, as I said earlier, lying inside of the north seawall, obviously the further up the wall you are the longer you will be dried out.
Watch the depth about 2 metres from the wall it's a bit shallower (I spent a 'low tide' 3 metres from the wall when I cut it too fine as I left, lost count of the number of people who asked why I was sat there.)
Eyemouth is also good and very sheltered. The entrance is interesting with a few close rocks followed by the 'Canyon' a narrow steep sided cut with a bend in it just for fun, call on 16/12 and ask if anyone is coming in otherwise it is VERY tight.
Another one of our greats is St. Abbs, use the East wall and you will see a ladder halfway down, you can lay afloat there. Hold your breath as you can't actually see the harbour entrance until you are ludicrously close and then it's hard left and follow the leading marks then bear left to the ladder. Superb harbour with a lot of nothing and incredibly clear water.
Berwick OK - just, but sheltered. All amenities.

(sometimes wishing his boat wasn't a long way away!!)

I am sure you will enjoy Seahouses. The fish&chips are half the price as those on holy Island:D The beer garden of the Ship has a fantastic view over the harbour and out to the Farnes.
There is some info on the Seahouses Marine Club website http://www.seahousesmc.org.uk/index.html. They rent the "fluke hole" which is a smell dredged area of the outer harbour, but I don't think that visiting boats can use these moorings. However, you will be able to moor against the north pier which partially dries and has a sandy bottom.
The Harbour Office can be contacted on 01665 720033 during office hours. Harbour VHF Radio Channel - Ch 8 - NB There is not a fixed listening watch kept on this channel, so its a case of giving them a call to see if the office is manned.

For a boat like yours, Berwick on Tweed should be possible. It looks very pretty from the train, and has lots of sand banks for you to dry out on, on purpose or otherwise.

Eyemouth is nice, look for the ice cream shop that says it's the best in the UK - it really is very good.

Another vote for St Abbs. You should be able to lie afloat there. Lovely spot with a dramatic entrance which is simpler than it seems in practice!

heading for seahouses. Failed

The best pies in the country come from Seahouses, just over the roundabout past the Co Op, butchers is on the left. Accross the road from the coop, down one of the lanes and accross the carpark is the swimming pool with a really good coffee shop and free WiFi. Phone reception can be iffy but by Lloyds bank is ok. If you need help seek out George Shiel on the Golden Gate he is our boatman and is usually helpfull.
Have fun.

Jill is with me

might go to eyemouth for the pontoon and showers

after she goes home I will give it a try by myself

at the moment heading for some less than ideal weather - sat, sun

so maybe spend a few nights in eymouth

she will have to bus it back to Amble to pick up the car and head home

quiet night against the wall

man those steps are high - katie L mast head is knee height at low tide

Seahouses is architecturally a bit weird

too many caravans on the outskirts of town

but the harbour is quiet and most the people here seem very keen on photography and wildlife

some stunnning Northumbrian beaches

never seen so many perfect sandy beaches in my life

you blokes who wizz past here on your way north have missed some beautiful places

The best views are from a small seat above Bamburgh lighthouse, stunning views of the castle and Holy Island. If you get the time try a kipper from the fish merchant along from the Black Swan.
