I have heard rumour that the 'new' marina at Seaham (Between Sunderland and Hartlepool) may be opening soon; Or is it already open. I can find very little up to date information about this facility.
Does anyone have reliable information for prospective visitors?
I have also heard rumour that the maximum draft is only 1.5m. If this is true, then I cant see them getting many visitors.

Thanks

I'd like to visit but it is still not open 'give it another month' I'm told from the Port.

The man in charge of the Marina is 'Norman' on 07584 297326.

Plz report your findings here.

You seem to be correct for the 1.5 meter depth, but that is the maximum, their web page seems to indicate it could be as low as 1 meter.
It will be good for the many day hobby fisherman in the area but not for cruising boats of any size.

An average of 1m.

Who are they trying to attract?

I dont think there ARE any boats at our club that could use the facility. Seems a wasted effort really. Shame.

I will have to continue using Hartlepool for short jaunts down the coast. Not that Hartlepool is a bad place to go, on the contrary, I quite like it.

Hi

I remember the local press saying that it would regenerate Seaham into the Cannes of the North and that visiting luxury yachts would spend money in the town. I am really disappoint in the lack of foresight and depth.

we have been down by car to look at the development a couple of times over the extended period and it looked pretty good, but now it's a complete farce. It will not achieve its goal in terms off attracting inward tourism spend its not been joined up thinking on behalf of the local authorities and developer.

The local day boat fishing fleet looks to benefit from the large grant aided tax spend on this project but as for any larger vessels they can just pass Seaham by on way Hartlepool etc.

I really can't get my head around the madness of this spending all that cash on something that could be really good for the area and then fail by not getting the depth enough for anything over 1.3m draft or so. We and other friends with boats would more than likely visited a few times a year and spent money in the shops, pubs and eateries. The town has been let down by the lack of thought when it comes to access for deeper drafted boats...

Rant over

Paul

That'll suit me. When do they open?

They should give me a free visitors berth for a year to cover the cost of the number of times I have phoned them.

Last time I spoke in July to Lisa she said it would be Mid August, considering the number of times it has missed opening I should have asked 'which August''.

To the best of my knowledge I think 1.5 m is the max at the visitors berth and there are not many visitors berths, maybe more if the tides right the marina gets shallower as you go into it, however having a long keel I do not want to moor against a pontoon to test the depth.

I also have been watching this site http://northdock.btck.co.uk/News

Totaly agree with others it will be an excellant stop over if only they had dredged the bottom of the dock to 2m depth.

Entrance 'when' it opens is via an automatic tidal gate with a traffic light system and the call will be channel 80 or M, that may also be a delay as they needed permission to operate on channel 80 & M.

We do live in hope on the East coast :)

I was down there yesterday. Not a soul in sight. No info, nobody to ask, not even a dog walker.

Two fishing boats tied to the wall, sea gate shut, pontoons empty, that's it.
