Seagulls have targetted my boat

Simple fishing line in loose V formation from bow to side windscreens/radar arch... nothing to be seen for the birds until about to land, then they notice something un-known and back off ... they do not like things they cannot see from a distance or bring uncertainty ... so keep away. Worked well in Peterhead of all places and our boat was clean compared with others.... cheap, simple and effective ..

Thanks for all the suggestions - have ordered some birdscare tape and some rubber snakes to leave . I was hoping to find an imitation cat that could be left outdoors but no success. I have loads of fishing line so will give that a go too.

Apols for late posting of results which are as follows: Humming Bird Tape - applied quite a few lengths across the radar arch and across the bow rails- they made plenty of noise but didn't deter the gullsd. On top of the boat I placed 2 plastic/rubber snakes - one went missing ( anybody seen a choking gull round Liverpool) and the other formed a nice companion for the gulls as they nestled comfortable along side it. They do seem to congregate on one particular area so I reckon a berth hop might be the answer.

I have fitted a Deckguard, and this seems to be working quite well. They no longer appear to be perching on the cabin roof, but it is no good at preventing 'cr*pping on the wing'. Perhaps the ultrasonic gives them such a fright that they sh*t themselves.

However, only when you read the small print do you find out that 43% of the human population can hear the ultrasonic. So when mounted on my radar platform it was beeping directly into the cockpit of the boat across the alley! I have now moved it, and fixed to a piece of wood across the pulpit, pointing slightly upwards and astern. This solved the audio problem, but the b*ggers perched on the piece of wood, and sh*t all over the bows! I have managed to deter them by hanging 4 CDs from a bungee cord across the pulpit, so we shall see how it goes from here.
