The on/off push/pull fuel switch on my old seagull is loose and leaking, as all it is is a cork and metal plunger (I think) I can't understand why. Can the cork dry out and shrink?

When the fuel tap on my seagull started to leak because the cork had shrunk I put the plunger in boiling water for a few minuets, it was quite a tight fit to reassemble.

Believe it or not, this is the approved method of fixing these taps. I actually took the cork off & boiled it for about 5 mins. Quite hard to put back on but has never leaked since!

Pan stank of 2/ for weeks tho'. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
