Re: Botnia Targa

Foxgoose

Are you happy to say what size of BTarga you have and whether you're pleased with it?

SWMBO was v interested in them at SBS, easy low freeboard, safe around the decks (anticipates grandchildren) and allegedly v good hull. Certainly look sfunctional > luxurious but question is - are you happy with it?

Thanks

Anthony

Plenty of advise as to keeping the things away. Bugger all on cleaning. Now I should'nt say this, Kimotolah will have me for advertising, but I'm in the blind and awning game! Form our suppliers of exterior awning cloth we get a drum of cleaning solution concerntrate. Its basically a very mild bleach with a few other things thrown in for good measure. So, best thing to do is go get yourself a bottle of milton and a scrubbing brush. Soak the canopy first with plenty of water. Spray on the dilutte Milton and scrub like buggery. It works on pigeon crap! Failing that give me a PM and I'll see if we can spare a drum or so!!

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Is your wife English, as opposed to Cornish? That being the case the seagull was doing his duty and stopping her as a "sowsnek" from eating her pasty.

I suggest sporting a St Pirran badge or flag and teh gulls will leaver her be in future.. *grin*

Ok i suppose i cant help you with cleaning, but......
we have a plastic owl, about actual size, on the top of our boat.
To be honest when we first put it on, i thought that we'd return to the boat and find a huge seagull s**t all over its head. But no! not one single piece of crap!!!!
It has been on the boat for about 8 months now and we have no intention of takin it off, especially thru summer when it is on a swinging mooring.
We got it thru nauticalia i think

Go to a shooting shop to buy your placcy owl. There a whole lot cheaper than the "boat" shop. I use one for decoying corvids, make sure the eyes are nice and bright with piercing pupils.

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Re: Botnia Targa

Anthony

Got a Targa 27 new as first powerboat in January after a lifetime of intermittent messing around with small sail boats so haven't got much experience to compare it with.

The attraction was - easy for single handing because of the walk round deck & bulwarks - particularly for mooring to the pontoon where I can lean out of the wheelhouse door and lasso a cleat while still driving the boat.

Also I keep it at the bottom of the garden and therefore wanted a boat which could be used all year round. It had to be small enough for single handed pottering on the river but seaworthy enough for coastal trips of 50 miles or so and maybe cross channel when I'm brave enough.

Apart from an unfortunate engine failure in the middle of Lyme bay on its delivery trip (Volvo assembly error) it has more than fulfilled its promise.

The hull is excellent - 32 k from single 230 hp when the bottom's clean and never a scary moment so far in winds up to f5/6. My 12 year old niece recently drove us from Salcombe to Dartmouth on a breezy afternoon when a mate who's a pro skipper later told me he'd had to run for shelter in a 40 odd ft Sealine.

The main drawback is that living accomodation is v. limited but for us it's mainly a day boat. I wish now I'd got a 31 which I'm sure I could have handled just as easily and would have been more of a weekender.

Service back up from Botnia and Wessex Marine has been excellent.

Hope this helps.

Re: Botnia Targa

Thanks v much foxgoose

It's good to hear a user confirm a boat and hull reputation.

We too thought the 27 was too small in the cabin to be anything other than a dayboat and were wondering about the 33 or 35. Then SWMBO worried if it was getting such a freeboard that the easy mooring wouldn't work any more.

Sometimes you can't win!

The Anti-Seagull Masterplan!

Hi everybody!

In the wintertime or in quieter marinas, the problem of bird droppings is much bigger!

The first thing to do is to prevent that the birds come to your boat. Make it uncomfortable for them to fly and sit on your boat. They will choose an easier boat to relax...

Second, once you got hit, the sooner you can wipe it off, the better, but, of course, we all got better things to do than watching the seagulls...

I use a special product which works pretty well!

Check out my article about bird droppings and seagull poo for the best tips!

Best regards,

Dominique
