Arrived at the boat on Saturday in Brighton, for some strange reason the Seagull's have have had a rave on the foredeck, and left me there mess.

I've been searching for some kid of deterrent ( apart from a machine gun ) Seen them on other boat's, the spinning one's Any body know where these can be sourced from, or the once's that look like fibra optic lights or anything else

Thanks

I saw this in Majorca recently - seems a bit drastic! There are hundreds of small cable ties attached to the rail with their tags pointing upwards.

Thin fishing line stretched across ....a bit slack, so it moves slightly ... seagulls don't see it straight away, but when they do the get worried about being entangled in something un-known .... Works in Peterhead Scotland where we have some quite determined ones...

2 washing line cords (the coloured plastic coated stuff - red and green if you're really sad like me) attached to each aerial on the radar arch with clips, to the front of the guardrail on the bow, with 2 x cheapo "fish" windsocks attached over the hood on each line (of the pound shop variety - no expense spared on my boat you know)....works wonders. Keeps the kids happy too - they call the fish freddy and frederica and create hours of amusement...The result is no seagull guano and very easy to put on/take off. Will post some pics if I can find any....

I tried this once. It didn't work. Along with the owl!

Let me know if you find a solution!

I used fishing line to tie up my snake & move it around from time to time. I also use fishing lines & light lines with plastic bags attached covering the flight paths to open areas of deck. Bit of a pain to set up/remove but seems to work.

Fishing line is a pain when you go aboard at night & can't remember where you set it up!

The fishing line idea is good but you can get some line that makes a noise and is easier to see, some chands do it and it is expensive, I bought some online, its made by Agralan and its called buzzline bird scarer some garden centers do it, the 500m is better value than the 30m one

dont put it on if someone lives near you though as it does make a mild wind sound like gale force.

same idea though it stops them landing and it easy to see, I have 2 ariels and I tie it across them it does work.

Of course it doesnt work, the seagulls can see you've tied it up, not daft you know!!! Land just out of rope range!

That'll be a Palma boat then. It's a well known anti seagull tactic used in Palma and indeed, I've used it myself for a couple of years and it seems to work although, of course, it's unsightly and moisture gets trapped under the cable ties which then leads to staining of the handrail
