Seago vs Ocean Safety Liferafts

I’ve got quotes from both companies for a 4-person offshore liferaft. The Ocean Safety one is almost exactly double the price of the Seago. The only obvious difference between them is the >24 hr service pack on the OS raft, whereas Seago just has the bog standard 24 hr pack.

Asuming that a few bottles of water and some dried food doesn’t account for the price difference, the OS liferaft must be much more robust than the Seago, or maybe not.

Can anyone shed any light on why their prices are so different?
Ask an inspection or service station imho. They know their onions. Seago has always seemed a bit low end imho

Thank you Helidan. Your opinion as a life raft servicer is especially valuable. I made my original post because the Seago is circa £900 and the Ocean Safety is circa £1800. From the responses posted here, it seems like there’s absolutely no good reason to spend double on the Ocean Safety version. I’m getting the Seago!

I suspect you were looking at different specifications of rafts, not comparing like for like.

That was over the lifetime of the raft. Do the math.
For the sake of the argument - raft cost price = £800; 3 year service cost = £300; Resale value after 3 year = £350 (£650 for a serviced 3 year old raft seems about right)
Buy and sell after 3 years - £800 -£350 =£450 - annual cost £150 (and don't forget the eBay fees)
Buy and scrap after 12 years - £800 +3*£300 = £1700 - annual cost £141
Buy 2nd hand after 3 years for £350, service £300, sell for £250 - £350 + £300 - £250 = £400 - annual cost £133

So the math (sic) shows that buying your reject raft after 3 years is the winner! Meanwhile I will take my bought-from-new raft to my local servicing station and see it inflated and know what is in it .

If you are quoting Seago figures please substitute the CORRECT service figures

I'm sorry - you made a statement; I asked you to justify it; you told me to do my own math(sic); I provided arithmetic that based on reasonable assumptions showed your original statement had little, if any value; and now you are questioning an assumed figure which, if it is too high, makes every other scenario than yours cheaper. Awa bile yer heid, ya numpty!

I suspect that you may be confusing posts. Did I post to the effect "you told me to do my own math(sic)"?
In any event if you are giving a demonstration of whole life costings it would seem reasonable to use the correct figures. If you do claim to have an interest in saving the pennies, it would seem odd not to do so; unless it is to mislead & further your claims.
If you do not agree with me, then it it is quite acceptable to say so. That is part of life on a forum. One accepts that.
However, I do not find it necessary to post phrases like :-

"Awa bile yer heid, ya numpty!"

Perhaps it demonstrates that the limits of your debating skills have now been reached. In which case one feels it is no longer worth discussing the matter further. I wish you well.

My sincere apologies. I mistook you for Beneteau381 - no idea why. My only excuse is small-screen myopia and the totally unjustified assumption that it was them who were questioning my financial assumptions challenging their claim. Again, my apologies.
However, the price of £299 for a 3 year service has been taken from the Seago price list - the 2nd owner would not benefit from any discount.

Acknowledges & gratefully accepted :D

Nope. Both are ISO 9650 Type 1, Group A, 4-person, valise packed. The only specification difference is that the Seago has a 24 hr pack whereas the Ocean Safety has a >24 hr pack. £900 is a lot for some food packets and water bottles.

Here's an option for you, self righting raft in valise, we have the container version. When we inspected it during service it appeared far better quality than previous Plastimo - Standard Self Righting SeaSafe life raft - SOLAS B, +24hr & -24hr packs
