Seago Dinghy bag

My dinghy is 3 years old. A word of warning. Don't leave it out in the sun. My seago dinghy has spent the last 2 seasons on deck in it's bag when not in use. First season it was kept in a locker. This year the bag has fell to bits. What surprised me most was the nylon webbing handles. Seago say all I can do is buy a new one. I asked is the new one UV resistant? they said no it's the same as the old one. I said no thanks.

Usually uv degradation of the sewing - they all do that - but in Scotland???

Sounds like it would be worth getting a decent one made out of Spray hood stuff. You could do it yourself or have a sail maker knock you one up.

Why do we insist on putting inflatable dinghies in bags? I usually tie mine in a roll with sail ties and then struggle to bag it - why not just tie it and leave it unbagged?

For me it gives it a bit of protection when trying to get it in and out of the locker. I've already discovered how easy it us to burst. Nothing like my old Avon....it could take some abuse!

Years ago we had a Metzeler inflatable(an Inca S if I remember correctly) and it was just tied outside our caravan. Loud bang - one of the tubes had burst - the sun had caused an increase in pressure which was too much for the tube. Replaced under warranty but I was surprised that what must have been a relatively small increase in temperature caused the tube to burst.

My bag went the same way after 2 years, the webbing on one handle just parted as I was lifting it off the boat.

Because if you dont keep it in a bag, then the dinghy ends up more sun damaged than Madge from Benidorm.

I am sure you re right, but most dinghies in bags(on sailing boats) are kept in a locker where they are protected from UV anyway. So if they are in a locker what benefit is there in putting it in a bag?
