Hi All,
The torsion tube on my headsail furler (a Hood Seafurl 3250 - late 1980s I think) is attached with 6 machine screws. Three in circumferance (120 degrees apart) around the top of the tube locking the tube to the bottom of the foil and three more at the bottom locking the tube to the furling drum.
The problem is I only have three screws to fit in six holes!
The screws are imperial sizes, somewhere close to M5 in diameter (measured at 5.2mm across the threads and 10mm across the countersunk screw head) but with a very course thread, much courser than metric threads. The crews are about 10mm in length. However without knowing what the thread is I don't really know how to get some new screws.
Does anyone know what size these machine screws are (and where I can get some more)?
If not I expect I will attempt to tap the holes to M6 and replace them all with M6 screws. I haven't done that kind of thing before so does it sound feasible to tap these holes by hand without taking the furler off?
Cheers!
