Any info re Seafly dinghys I may be able to help have had a Seafly donated to our club with a sales leaflet and original class association handbook. Fortunately the dinghy has been well stored and just requires tidying. The good old days the price for a dinghy was a whopping 296 pounds ready to sail.

Hello Snoopy,

I'd be very interested in any info, as I recently bought a 1972 Mayfly through ebay... That was before Christmas, so during my last leave I finally took a 5 day course of sailing lessons. Now I can't wait to get home, repair the mast (I split it by dropping it!), and then give the boat, which is otherwise in fair condition, a bit of a tidy up and getting out to practise what I've learnt. Any info would be much appreciated

All the best

Paul

I taught myself to sail in a Seafly - must have been mid 60s I suppose - many happy memories sailing around Mylor Creek and the Fal Estuary - mostly myself with my labrador as crew - she used to hop over the centreboard box when I tacked! Lovely stable boats for teaching someone to sail in, also for picnics and family days out - I used to hang a beastly old Seagull 40+ on the back to get me from Restronguet to Mylor Yacht Club in the evenings - how I got home I can't remember ... maybe the Labrador did the steering! Happy days!

Are these similar to firefly, there is a great film clip on British Pathe that is worth a watch.

You can download free low res movies, the others cost /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It is a bit scary at first as you click purchase, but you are faced with a cost of £zero and no bank details. They ask you for address etc etc, but I have never been spammed or bothered by them, I think because it is lottery funded they need to prove you are a UK resident.

I can spend hours on the site, there are some real gems in there.

p.s. if the link does not work properly,

go to http://www.britishpathe.com/ and type sailing dinghy in the search window (firefly racing dinghy pulls up another movie link, not the one I am referring to!)

have fun.
