I have just fitted a new impeller, started up, no water flow. Seawater strainer was fine, so I disconnect the seawater intake hose, open the seacock.... no water ingress at all. The handle still turns through 90 degrees to open and close, and there is still a resistance. Is it possible for the centre to have sheared? Anyway... tomorrow I am going to connect the intake of the seawater strainer to the toilet flush intake seacock (which is adjacent) as I don't want to lift out before the winter. Hopefully this bit of makeshift plumbing will get me through the season. Just too put the icing on the cake some sh!t has hit my boat again..... This time pulling the pulpit out from the stem fitting and smashing the port nav light. FFS how do these people manage it? There is 30/40 meters of water either side, and the whole of Portland harbour to the south.

I know what you mean about bad drivers. Some years ago I was moored on a holding buoy waiting for enough water to get back into the marina. Plenty of time to spare so went below to make lunch. There was a big bang and a yatch had driven straight into me amidships. I felt sorry for the bloke his kids were running him raged and he looked very very embarrassed. As my boat at the time was an ex-pilot boat 45ft long with 2inch larch planking, my old girl hardly noticed it. I told him not to worry about it. He'd knocked a bit of tupperware off the front of his though. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I still don't know how he didn't see me. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I can't see any reason why your resourceful improvisation won't work. Good luck. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My seacock did the same. There was a spigot between the handle and the ball that had sheared off it was shaped like a straight screwdriver end.
I managed to turn the valve on temporarily by removing the handle and gland nut and using a screwdriver then replacing the gland nut ect.

I had the engine inlet seacock blocked with weed. Putting a piece of wire down did no good due to the size and type of the weed. In the end I connected the tender foot pump to the pipe and stood on it to blow out the blockage.
