There is evidence that the ball and stem in some DZR and bronze valves are (plated) brass but even these seem to make it for more than 4-5 years.

ASAP told me that the balls in their DZR valves are also made from DZR. For this reason they recommend them in preference to their bronze valves which only have plated brass balls, as you say.

Not the case if you buy in the UK where they are priced at a similar level to Marelon which is substantially more expensive than DZR.

Depends on where you buy them and whether just changing a valve or everything. I costed up bronze and DZR ball valves + through hulls + hose tails and then TruDesign from Lee Sanitation. http://www.leesan.com/index.asp?m=3&b_idno=23&t=Tru+Design+Plastics TruDesign turned out slightly cheaper and they're in the post for fitting this liftout.

Which is why the statement posted above that their valves have a life expectancy of 4-5 years takes some believing. I shall quiz them on Friday at the show.

I know this has been covered before, but.....

my greatest gripe is with corroding handles. Our DZR cocks are great, but their mild steel handles started corroding immediately (even if galvanised). I have slowed down the process with various paints, but I would still like to get new, stainless replacements. I can't get these in the UK. There is a US company that does them, but the shipping costs are ludicrous.

Some here suggested fabricating my own... but I don't have the facilities to do so...can anyone come up with a UK supplier of replacement handles?

It looks as if Marelon are cheaper than DZR, let alone bronze. A look at the ASAP website shows DZR 1.5 inch BSP skin fittings at £23.52, valves at £38.54 and 38mm hose tails at £9.51. All together £71.57 as against the complete Marelon fitting at £65.70

Much will depend on where the boat's located. A surveyor friend says he has seen valves knackered in marinas within that timescale due to galvanic corrosion.
