We have a problem with our sea toilet which goes as follows; when we turn the lever from flush to empty it is an absolute swine to depress the lever until all the water has drained, then normal resistance comes back. Sometimes it is so hard to flush that my better half cant do it and i have to pump the handle. I have removed the pipes and can se no deposit build up. any ideas?

Mine did that when the flexi outlet pipe blocked. It was blocked with calcium like build-up and whatever had recently been deposited in the loo.

Now let me tell you this is not gonna become your favourite job. Remove the flexi outlet hose, take it ashore and bash it against a firm object. An amazing amount of calcium stuff and other unmentionables will come out. When clear refit and try the toilet flush. With luck you'll not have to dismantle the pump mechanism - which if Jabsco can be an absolute b....r! I know.

Good luck!

If it is a Jabsco/Par toilet, check if the lever positively presses up a little weighted flapper valve. I had a replacement pump gasket which was off by two mm, enough to cause the problem you describe.

I had the same problem on my boat soon after I got it. Due to an accident I cracked the bowl and SHMBO insisted I got a new loo(Lavac). I had real problem removing the old inlet and outlet hoses and had to cut them into small lengths. The outlet hose internal diameter was reduced to about ¾" diameter instead of 1½" diameter. I replaced all the inlet and outlet hoses with the white 'anti-smell' type - still a b***** to get on, even when soaked in boiling water!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Jabsco toilet, like one of the other posts it started after I replaced valve gasket thingy. I have overcome the problem by putting a small vent (pinhole) at the top of the intake pipe loop. This may be treating the symptoms rather than the problem but now that less water is drawn with each pump stroke, the toilet is working better than it has ever done.
