Sea Tiger 555 Windlass paint job

We have a Simpson Lawrence 555 windlass that is in almost perfect working order but the casing needs painting. The new model looks as though it has a baked plastic coating but ours has the remains of green paint. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to prepare the windlass body for painting , which primer and which top coat ?

The casing is in pretty good nick but does really need painting. Also when I say almost perfect working order the clutch doesn't release the chain drum , it did when I last used it in November but not yesterday , any ideas.

I have one of these excellent windlasses on my boat. Re painted it with white hammerite. The clutch is on a taper inside the gypsy and gets stuck. All you need to do is slacken the screw and lever it off with the handle between the body of the windlass and the gypsy.
