Credit where it is due..........

My tacker went monkeys the other week and without even looking at it sea teach have put a new one in the post for me.

Its 2 years old so well passed any warrenty.

Im also based in the med and with a brief trip to the uk next week they have allready put it in the post for me so i can bring it back out with me.

That means i will have it in time for the Gib to Smir rally next month and no doubt i shall now take line honors with the usefull bit of winning kit (weather permitting)..........:rolleyes:

In fairness, they would like the old one back, which is no problem, the important thing is that the new one has been sent out without receipt of the old.

Good on you sea teach, keep up the good work and you keep the buisness going.

Hmmmmm

Im not starting this to S*ag sea teach off, they have truely done well. Beyond what i expected and they deserve a gold star.

By far, miles better than some other chandleries mentioned on these forums..........
 
oh, i agree - seateach are great. its just any mention of them brings a knee-jerk reaction from seajet
 
I didn't have amazing experiences with them on my first order. But that said, once it was all resolved, they were quite apologetic (by email)
So I'll sit on the fence.. Glad they did you well though I'm not their biggest fan.

Likewise . The most likely place I'd go if I want something when I'm working on the boat although they say the Chandlery in Emsworth marina is good .
 
Surely they will price match tho?

I have used them as the local chandlery, as a one stop SP systems supplier and three years ago for supplying new (NEW-are you mad BBman?) deck hatches for a refit.

Quaintly old fashioned independent, I think the town would be poorer without them.

Picked up a couple of real gems there too over the years
 
I've bought from them, in their shops (not online), many times over the years, and have always found them helpful and reliable. I know a couple of females, though, who say they have found them rude or patronising (maybe these were 'off' days).

Anyway....I've learnt something new. Never heard of a 'tacker' before!
 
As a local I often use Seateach. On the whole they have have excellent and helpfull staff, however there is a mr grumpy there who can be extreamly short/gruff, usually spotted by his emergence from the office as a result of a difficult question needing an answer. He knows his stuff, but a course in customer care would not go amiss! all IMHO!

I think its a brill bit of kit, Obviousley some people dont like fying the chute so it would be pointless, but if you fly your chute a fair bit its worth the cost. I used it alot when single handed to, makes life so easy.

That is untrue and unfair.

My last comment about Seateach was to praise their good service recently !

Yes I and a few friends have had problems with them in the past, I know some people who have vowed never to use them again...

I consider them the only decent source of stainless steel fastenings for miles around.

There was a long thread a couple of years ago about a Mr Grumpy of SeaTeach. I wonder if it is the same man.

Perhaps he's good for business. Maybe people go in to have a look at him and end up buying something. :D

I think I know who you mean; however as far as I know they don't yet keep him in a cage and sell sticks to prod him with ! :D
 
I stopped using them after exchanging an empty gas bottle for a full one.
The chap behind the till wanted to charge fifty odd quid for a refill. After some explaining about the difference between refill prices and bottle complete prices I gave up and said I'll take my empty back. "We can't return empties to you." Total idiot. Did get it sorted in the end.

Rapidy becoming the ONLY source of S/S fastenings: everyone else is switching to those horrid pre packs where you have to buy 5 when you need 3, or 10 when you need 6! And at prices where they would be no bargain in 9ct gold!
 
It's not all jam working in a chandlery; for my sins I worked briefly in the Chichester Chandlery, long gone now.

One day a fairly elderly lady in tweeds, so very obviously not a sailor, marched up to the counter and in a very Hyacinth Bucket voice asked us

" have you got any of those replica half eaten pies ? "

I was having real trouble containing myself, so let the shop owner Dennis deal with her; I didn't dare even make eye contact with him for fear of exploding with laughter...

Dennis had a lovely sense of humour,

" May I enquire the nature of Madam's request ?

" Well you see my son has a cottage in Wales, and to avoid the locals burning it down he wants to leave a half eaten meal on the table during the week, to make it look like someone is in; now have you got any of those fake half eaten pies ? "

" Madam, this is a chandlery selling equipment for boats, sadly our remit does not include replicas of half eaten comestibles "...

After she'd gone, I asked Dennis, ' did I just dream that ? ' ! :)
