This year marks the centennary of Scouting. One of the culminating events will be the Jamboree in London this summer.

A few months ago the Belgian Sea Scouts were contacted by their Danish colleagues, who planned on coming by boat, and whether we could provide some support along the way. A few days after that we got a similar request from our Portuguese colleagues. It now seems that a whole fleet is coming down/up the European shores to invade the Thames. So we started organising an Armada.

Our part concerns the routing Ostend-London, India Dock. The fleet will leave Ostend on 25/7/2006, and cross to Ramsgate. But here is the question:
On the 26th, the incoming tide is early or late, and also Ramsgate-London is quite a long slog. So what would be a good stop along the way?

We are talking about 30-50 vessels, anything from small private yachts to the Portugues U.A.M. Creoula

But the Creoula is an exception, and will have her own planning. Most of the participating vessels will be chartered yachts or yachts owned by supporters/parents.

Tentative planning
- arrival in Ostend of all vessels from 23/7 onwards,

- departure 25/7,

- Ramsgate 25/7 +12.00h.,

- London-India Dock 26/7 where transportation can be provided.

- 28/07 parade Tower Bridge

- 29/07 or 30/7 return Belgian Ships

Ah, and we are also looking for all kinds of support (support boats, entertainement, free beer) as possible. We are in contact with the concerned authorities (PLA, Channel pilots, etc...).
A planning meeting will be held in London on 28/2, so we need to have a proposal by then.

Again: main question: where do you stop for the night inbetween Ramsgate and London. And yes, I've moored in Queensborough twice and Hoo. I don't think Queensborough has much to offer, and oo is to far up the Medway. Surely there must be other options?

What a splendid idea! Suggest you contact British Sea Scouts via Scout HQ. They may be able to provide escort vessels. I think you will probably have to stop at Qeenborough or anchor in Stangate Creek to await the tide-there are few other options apart from anchoring near Southend Pier which can be rough.

Greetings

I am the Chairman of the Ramsgate & Broadstairs Sea Cadets, although not the same as the Sea Scouts we both share a love of the sea and support for Youth Organisations. We are the largest Unit in SE Kent and are based at Ramsgate. We would be very willing to give any assistance to your participants, please contact me with an e-mail address or telephone number and we will start to make arrangements for your arrival, including media coverage if you require it

Best wishes.
