Sea orbiter - research station

OK,

so in the unlikely event the thing ever gets funded, how does it get into position and stay there, quite a few handy ocean going tugs ?

The U.S. have had a similar job for decades, I forget her name but it's a pencil hulled ship which sinks the stern to vertical and the forward section above the waves beomes a research station.

I think the idea is that it simply drifts with the currents. Sounds like a good way of piling up on the Caribbean shoals to me :)

The American vessel you're thinking of is R/V Flip. The bow section looks fairly conventional, and apparently when it's pointing up in the air they regularly get reported as a sinking ship!

Looks like somebody's been watching too many Bond movies. How would you launch it? Never mind cleaning the barnacles off the windows?

" I've been expecting you, Mr Bond; now here's the bucket and chammy leather, and don't let on to NATO about the TBT antifouling or I won't lock you up in a cupboard with a gorgeous girl and a gun "
