Jumblie came with a Sea Go 4-man valise liferaft which is now due its first service. If possible, I'd like to have it repacked into a canister so it can life on deck.

Se Go are happy to do this - £190-ish for the service and £110 for the canister. I'd have to get itto and from them.

Cosalt in Edinburgh are very convenient, but won't give a price until they have inflated it and then expect it to be £290 minimum. Repacking into a canister not an option there, I presume.

Can anyone suggest any other reasonably local servicing place, or somewhere further afield whose value for money outweighs the courier costs. I'm not looking for Dodgy Dave's Liferaft Servicing Emporium We Ask No Questions - I'm perfectly happy to pay appropriately for a good job.

Cosalt are the licensed agents in Scotland and the others won't touch Seago, but they did mine quite quickly and for a bit less than £290, mind you mine is in a ccanister.

Put the raft on ebay, and offset the cost of a new one.

Changing the valise for a canister is expensive and not cost efficient.

My raft will go on sale fairly shortly, as Mailspeed have closed shop, and they used to do a free pick up and delivery on a Thursday for SeaGo.

I like the product, but I think their business practices with the other repairers is shocking.

I thought about that, but I'd need to have it serviced to sell it (surely?) and an extra hundred quid to get it canistered didn't seem too bad.

Except that some other brands have lower servicing costs.

Have you factored in the cost of the 120 quid cradle?

Does anyone know who now services liferafts in central Scotland?

The place I took my last one to in Port Glasgow seems to have closed. It's a Plastimo 4 man valise.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I had mine serviced with Ocean Safety round in Greenock last year. Very efficient and surprisingly reasonable with the price. They let me know when they were going to do the service and allowed me to be there to watch it being inflated and take photographs.

The previous time I had it serviced was through a chandlers in Plymouth so imagine my surprise when the man at Greenock discovered his signature in the internal service booklet. The life raft had been sent all the way to Scotland for its previous check over.

The life raft started out as a Plastimo Valise, but was repacked after a couple of years into a Plastimo Canister. It was well worth the cost at the time. I suggest you just get the service place to assess the state of it before you start paying out money...

The place in Port Glasgow (Cosalt?) burned down, as I recall. There is still Survitec in Leith and Hillingdon.

The place I went to was in a new build sent of units set back from the road. Has it really burned down since a few months ago. They were doing lots of MOD and commercial work so I would have imagined that they would start up again even if they had been burned down.

At Edinburgh if you are that way bound. These guys are/were Plastimo liferaft agents. I have had my own Plastimo serviced here twice now. The first time they notified me of an issue with the cylinder that Plastimo had raised as they contacted me directly regarding replacement. Good service but make sure you tell them if you want it back soon as I believe you keep your boat in commission all year. If not they will park it and batch inspect for March/April delivery, they assumed with me that the yacht would be out of commission in the winter and it took a bit of hassle to get it serviced in the time frame I wanted http://www.survitecgroup.com/services/location/511

These folk took over from Cosalt in Edinburgh....maybe elsewhere. They have done Seagol

Survitec in Leith (successors to Cosalt) still do Sea-Go. I was careless enough to lose half my canister (don't ask!) and the initial cost for a new box from Sea-go was eye-watering. It's not just the box, each of the labels (needed for re-certification) were, to me, silly prices. £110 is a hell of a lot less. I recommend a wee length of cord to keep the 2 halves of box together.

I used Survitec in Leith. Though I physically dropped the liferaft off there, it was delivered back to my house FOC, since they were a bit slower getting round to it than I was quoted.
I'm quite glad it's not every year:eek:

Those were the one I was referring to and used myself. I found them very helpful and whilst not cheap, the price was reasonable. (Less than £150 for a full service if I recall correctly?)

It was Ocean Safety in Greenock (well that's where they are now) who had a fire about 2-3 years ago. I know this because Cherry Ripe came to use in 2011 with a brand new liferaft, the original having been in said fire.
