Sea Doo based up the Itchen

Sorry can't name and shame as I didn't see the name but on Saturday a Sea Doo (next step up from a jet ski sort of thing) passed Shamrock and Saxon apparently showing his passengers how to get the biggest wake by throttling back then accelerating to just off the plane repeatedly.

Apart from nearly throwing swmbo off the boat as we were tidying up the wake was enough to snap a mooring warp on the boat on the pontoon in front of us.

Luckily no further damage around us but who knows what mayhem he caused elsewhere, ffs what a complete knob. No wonder raggies dislike mobos

From where he was heading I think he's based at Southampton dry Stack or Drivers.

If anyone thinks they know him please let him know that he's a complete prat who deserves a bit of "treatment".

sounds similar to the chap with a beige coloured shetland or similar style of 18ft mobo who runs up the hamble from swanwick end, past Mercury and I assume out to the Solent for a spot of evening fishing at approx 15kts. Big wake & a lot of noise from 2 stroke outboard..... where is the HM when you need him!?

If I hadn't just put the cover on I would have gone after him. It was the worst I've seen, and that includes the Plod Rib that usually cruises up the river at just off planing speed

or the yacht club launches that motor up and down the river at 8knts causing a tsunami after them... but HM totally ignore them, I have seen with my own eyes one overtake HM on the hamble, causing significant wash to the HM and they just had a friendly wave to one another and he continued on his way causing merry hell to all the boats moored on the river.... That's when you realise that there is one rule for us leisure river users and another for commercial boats/taxi's/fishermen

If they're behaving like this heading downstream, radio VTS on 12. They check the cameras on the itchen bridge then nab em when the have a launch available. Always had superb response whenever I've been in contact with VTS and they do have jurisdiction in the Itchen.

I think i followed that boat a couple of weekends ago, past me by saxon not quite on the plane, so huge wash, went onto a plane just past the football ground and to the far right of the itchen bridge.

As for the seadoo, not sure what type of colour this one was but we have a white/purple one that likes to be on full plane right up to riverside park

Missed this post, HM nearly sent me spinning down river between where TVS and the Priory Road slipway are, never seen a wake like it on a boat of that size

Not sticking up for the Sea Dooer or taking sides, but that must have been an enormous wake to snap a mooring warp.

OR the mooring warp was severely degraded due to ultra violet exposure.

OR the mooring warp was really undersized to be equivalent to a little better than a piece of twine?

The wake was sufficient to almost push us up onto the pontoon so yes it was pretty enormous. Once I found my feet and looking at the boats along from us I would guess at 3ft or so height. Enough to wash over the pontoon.

Heading upstream but a good point about vts. I'll reserve that one for the future

Crossed swords with them a few times, the buggers had the nerve to yell at me to reduce my wash because one of their precious paddlers was approaching, then sped off causing their usual mayhem. I was trickling along at about 3 knots putting fenders out at the time
