For anyone who missed the 'other' Scutbut Cherbourg trip, I have planned to cross on Oct 9th returning on the 11th (Sunday). Tides are very similar to the earlier trip, we will be leaving Chi harbour around 0500 on the Friday.

If anyone fancies tagging along we'll worry about a restaurant when we get there.

All this weather dependant of course.

may be

think about it (will check agenda) :)

we are moored in chichester marina, so neighbours...

unfortunately we can't, just checked the agenda ;(

Nick even with sterling parity with the Euro wine is still cheaper in France, simply because you pay less duty on the stuff there. Yes I know you can get some good deals in Tescos, but I prefer something from Bordeaux rather than SW Australia.

Any way, its about the sailing not the shopping. :-)

Dont plan on saving much money for anything other than table wine. Euro-sterling rate spoils the fun somewhat.
The big difference is that in France you can get very drinkable wine very cheaply. The problem buying wine in the UK is that all the cheap stuff is totally undrinkable - whereas buying in France you can get very acceptable Vin de Table for 1-2 Euro.

Once you get to the more expensive wines (say >£5 per bottle) the difference is less marked and I am not sure that I would subject them to the indignity of a channel crossing in a small boat :)

What - you don't like the wonderful oaked Chardonnays that the Aussies produce??? I have come across people who think that IS the taste of the Chardonnay grape - Give me a good Macon village anyday!

Is it just me that seems to get a headache from New World reds c £5 to £8?

In August my son wound up working at a chateau in St Emillion area. Most of the case sent for my birthday arrived intact. Lovely...

SWMBO and I would be interested - we were otherwise committed for the 'Official' trip. However, we'd have to be a last minute confirmation due to work commitments.

Blinkin 'eck another one getting all religious! Should'nt this trip be redirected to Loyurdes or somewhere!

Before we know it there'll be a scream of FOB! .. to which Chris will retort "No I'm not admiring Galadriels bottom, i'm just getting baptised!"
