Scuttlebutt New Year Knighthood to.....

Any nominations for a Yacht designer??
I would nominate 5 yacht designers, all have designed nice easily driven and sea worthy hulls. These are only a small number from all the boats I have sailed on over the past 50+ years.
Stephen Jones
David Thomas
Herman Frers
Van de Stadt
Ed Dubois
My favourite designer is difficult to choose from above but I think it would have to be Stephen Jones or Ed Dubois.

Finally I would add Bruce Kirby for designing the Laser dinghy. Simple elegant design that has stood the test of time and over 200,000 built since being designed in 1970, yes 1970, very nearly 50 years ago.

Some excellent suggestions, and yet, in the real world, we have a knighthood for Iain Duncan Smith for services to kicking the poor while they're down.

I was delighted about Clive Lloyd finally being knighted. Long overdue and thoroughly deserved.

I can think of so many yacht designers who are far more worthy of a knighthood than a politician like IDS.

I would include Laurent Giles, Olin Stephens and Chuck Paine in that list (but there are so many others of repute as well).

Gordon Greenidge (from Barbados) was also awarded a knighthood along with Clive Lloyd - he and Desmond Haynes were an invincible pair of opening batsmen in literally hundreds of test matches, in the days when the Windies ruled supreme at cricket.

Iain Duncan Smith get a knighthood!!! what FOR????.

It appears that we, here, are able to decide to who really worth giving a Knighthood.

Therefore: The inventors of the cavity magnetron, that used to radically develop the Radar were Sir John Randall and Harry Boot. To my knowledge, Harry Boot was never knighted. Well, I suggest that he is now Sir Harry Boot. He also enjoyed sailing, owning two boats at in Salcombe, Devon.
