I've been participating in forums and bulletin boards for a good many years now. There seem to be recurrent patterns in how boards evolve, as well as in the 'careers' of individual posters. Peppermint has alluded to some of the factors, and I've posted before with my theories.
As a result it's virtually impossible to make a subjective assessment of the health or otherwise of a board, other than of how it suits you for the stage you are at. The only real test is the number of postings. By that standard, these forums are now probably the best anywhere for sailing.
But of course in my young day, the sailing forums were all so much better ... (cont. p94)
