Scuttlebutt Cherbourg Cruise 2015

PS: Hope Snark gets in okay after what must have been a long and wet day at sea.[/QUOTE]

Left Alderney with f4 forecast , put a reef in the main just in case (as you do). Found F3 so rolled out a full Genoa. Then got a weather warning "strong winds imminent". Discovered my roller reeling was jammed. Too late to do anything about it and was caught just off the Casquettes separation zone unable to manoeuvre well or see very far. Couldn't raise anyone on vhf until a passing vessel re-broadcast my plight. By the time I was clear of the potential danger zone, the wind had abated but it was too rough to go on the foredeck. Eventually got in with de powered sails and my faithful 1GM10 around 11.30 last night. Found and fixed the problem in 20 minutes in Yarmouth, today, but it would have been impossible at sea. Had it not been so rough, I could have at least dropped the furshlugginer beast. See you all next year!

The wind yesterday was way above forecast and so was the sea state. Forecast was for "smooth occasionally slight", yeh right!! You made the right decision staying off the foredeck in those conditions and so pleased you posted your safe return ...and I'm sure that goes for all of us.

Look forward to meeting you again soon and full credit for doing the right thing on an unexpectedly blowy, miserable and soaking wet day :encouragement:

Well of course I took one of my new toy:

I went over to Alderney on the Sunday and saw Snark there.

Left early on the Monday for Portland; the wind got up to about F6 on a broad reach. Interesting. Seas a bit lumpy. Crossed in about 9hours - not bad for 30 ft boat.

Thought he might come closer than 20 feet! :)

WE rigged fenders as well when near Colin & Fergus but that was so we could get within a few feet of each other to pass Fergus his jacket back that he had left in Cherbourg YC !

Good boat handling by both one of my crew and Colin resulted in no touching!

We should have said hi or arranged to meet in the Divers. I didn't see anyone I recognised from Cherbourg, but then i wasn't looking.

Shame they've stopped doing the club sandwich, but at least they had Doom Bar.
