What do you mean by a mini compressor? I have a Bauer junior, don't think they come much smaller than that, it's still a decent size and very heavy.

Clive, very funny...
We are looking for proper dive gear. That mini B kit would have been ideal for the task we did the other day.
Bauer junior is the ticket I think, small and functionable.

was'nt mean to be funny I did say it depends and qualify that they are for short dives rope removal etc.

I ended up with two full sets but we dont use them much and rely on local refills
I was going to buy one of these though for doing the props.
I think you should check these out - tethered hose units (in layman’s words)
I'm sure it is better than separate sets and a compressor

Do you have any scuba qualification?
I could be wrong (apologies up front if I am) but the tone of the thread sets some alarm bells ringing.
The sort of professional gear you are looking at will take you down to 30m and more. You may initially think of using it for hull cleaning etc but you will soon get adventurous (because it's just fabulous down there with scuba gear)
It's not until you have done a scuba course that you realise the perils of diving.
Again apologies if you are qualified. My intentions are purely for your safety.

Owner is qualified, I am doing a PADI course so will have a qualification. I will ensure that any guest using the equipment has formal training. Don't want any unnecessary accidents on my watch.

If you are looking for a supplier rather than manufacturer, I apologize, but here's my tuppence worth on the gear. I started out with Mares wetsuits, BCD, regulator, mask, fins, the lot actually. They have been very good and come highly recommended in the press. I've now incorporated some Diverite gear as well (a harness and a ridiculously expensive and unreliable HID torch) , but the quality has been a bit of a let down.
I can strongly recommend Mares stuff, well made, reliable and service probably readily available around the med. No connection, just happy with the gear.
Bauer compressors are very good as well. Been around for ages, apparently you can still get spares to units sold in the fifties.

What sort of depths are you planning?
I am a qualified diver with some 25 years experience. I am SAA Dive Leader and PADI rescue diver. I have a lot of 40m - 50m experience over the years.
On board for what I call "posh snorkelling" I have a Mini B with a 12 litre tank (so I don't have to fill it all the time)
For grabbing a few scallops, a bimble around or simply a little boat maintenance it is excellent.
Everything fits in the back pack when being stored and it performs perfectly underwater.
I wouldn't use it for more that 10m -12m but then again having dived through the UK I probably wouldn't dive much more than that with anything anymore!
Now the Caribbean! That is a different ball game!

I agree, I love your reference to the Mini B as "Posh snorkelling" and that sums it up nicely. I've had a Mini B for many years and great for doing a little more than just snorkerlling, but I don't go deeper than 6m in the Solent and the south coast. I have a twin 12L set-up for doing more deeper dives and for extra safety etc.
Anyway if the mini-b is a no no, then I recommend the Apeks gear, Buddy BCDs and Sunnto computers, all been pretty realiable in my 15years of diving.

Agree with all who ask about the typoe of diving, but I would also ask about the environment you will be storing the stuff in ... and or if the kit will be stored onboard / may lie around with limited access to fresh water for rinsing for a number of days..
If so, I would look at Poseidon regulators, such as poseidon Cyclon (metal) or Jetstream. For tanks not rolling around, but still lightweight, I'd consider 2x4L or 2x6L, 300 BAR dive culinders (more demands on compressor though). I used to dive with twin 7L's @300 BAR and Aga Divator MkII, + Jetstream Octopus and loved the kit. Wife Dived with Twin 4L, 300 BAR but Poseidon Main and Octopus. Wife was very protective of her lightweight tanks because everybody wanted to try them out. Great to have on the board, solid kit and, as the AGA 2 x 4L had negative boyancy when empty, my wife only needed 8Kg on her lead belt in a Viking Drysuit...

Hi thanks for everyones input.
The kit will be kept onboard 26m motoryacht so wash down is no problem. Also kit can be stored in a dry locker in summer and during the winter months can be bought inside the boat.
I am new to diving but owner is advanced diver, I will be his "buddy". We will operate in the med between Gibraltar and Turkey and depths wont be vast as I am expecting to go off the back of the yacht, so 20-30m (I hope). We will use for cleaning props and any other underwater gear Ie bathing platform. (Also recovering anchor if we have problems)
I have narrowed search to Mares Prestige plus or Scubapro Equator...
the idea of two small bottles sounds good but I don't want to trouble of stowing 4 bottles so will go for 2 x 12ltr tanks..
Have come across a helpful dive shop in London, my only concern is not trying stuff on before buying it.
Anyone recommend good dive sites around Balearics, Corsica etc??
