I bought one of these scribbis scrubbers. Good for hull cleaning as much as you can do from the dock, or tender.

My gripe is the poor quality of the spring clip that holds the head on. Surely if it is to be used in a marine environment it should be stainless steel. The O/E spring clip was not stainless and rotted away and snapped in a very short space of time.

Now it'll be an easy fix, I bought a set of 10 for a few quid, but really very irritating. Am i wrong to expect more from the manufacturer if a marine item? 😡😡😡😡😧😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Unfortunately the spring needs to be made of spring steel for most normal applications.
Lots of grease may help slightly with the problem.
Packing with waterproof grease might well be a good idea. I hope the stainless ones are springy enough ➿

Or just use a bolt.

I leave mine on the dock, so folding is not a thing. I've had it several years, no problems. But it gets rinsed with rain.

However, IMO, you need the Groovy head. The one it comes with is useless. The Groovy head will take off all of the soft growth.

When the sponge head wore out I cable tied an offcut of astro turf to it. Works a treat and I have enough astroturf left to outlast me!
Great idea! It's the turf on the head that makes the difference.

I have an F-24 trimaran, and the Scribbis will even let me reach sections of the main hull that are under the tramps. In the summer swimming is fine, but in the winter ... not so much.

I found mine in the marina skip with a bust clip that I bolted the head back on, really useful for getting the slime off my coppercoated hull. Any barnacles would tear the foam very quickly but good for a clean or cleanish to start with hull...

You can hardly expect a tool like this to do anything with hard growth. They can be stubborn diving. it is only for slime.

And they do take a gentle hand.

I feel like it works much better than I would have guessed ... but that I didn't expect much.
  • I don't get growth in the winter. Soft growth falls off.
  • It's good for slime in the spring and fall.
  • By late fall the growth has stopped.
  • In the summer it's faster to swim.
  • If there is hard growth, I need to haul and paint.

the same happened to me, spring clip broke on the second use, a pack of 10 bought off amazon so 9 spares now :-)

The hard plastic strip that inserts into the foam seems to work well enough with a years worth of growth for me.
