Hi there, wondering if anyone know of any groups of boats going from NE Scotland to Norway in spring / summer 2014? I have boat sitting in Arbroath that would be great to have up here but I would not attempt a crossing like that alone, I would happily join a group of similarly capable boats though.
Regards Alan

You could try some of the Scottish yacht clubs, to see if they are running cruises in company for 2014. The CCC has had cruises to Norway in the past. Also there are races between Lerwick and Norway each year, so tagging along with them might be an option.

Don't discount making the trip alone, it's quite doable in a well found boat. Lerwick to Bergen is around 200 miles, other places on the UK mainland to Norway are about 300 miles. These distances might seem daunting but if you choose the weather they are easily achievable.

We did it there and back 2 years running a few years ago and loved every minute of the trips. The scenery when you get there makes the trip well worth while. Good luck!

Did this trip from Macduff to Stavanger in 1992. It was fantastic. This trip is from alternate cities each year to recreate trips made during the 2nd world war. Flotilla of 30 plus boats of different sizes and competence gave a us a great time . If you can get in touch with the yacht clubs in that area , they will help i'm sure.

Hi If you thinking of coming over. As CLP suggests. Theres the Bergen/Shetland/Bergen Race and the Ålesund/shetland/Ålesund race (Both at the same time) mid June each year. They are not all 'boy-racers' and standard cruising boats take part. Some 'cruising' boats have followed in company with the crossing(s). For dates, its about 20th-25th June, check 'Fjordsailing Shetland Race'.
Sometimes in Lerwick you will find other 'lone' boats happy to make the crossing with you! If they are Norwegian, so much the better, lots of usefully info!
