Scotchguard Fabric Protector

I am recovering all (10) internal cushions with fabric, synthetic polysomething. Has anybody used or have any advice on finishing with Scotchguard spray? Also have got a few bits of carpet which may benefit from a dose of this?
Does it effect the finish of the fabric, make it stiff/scratchy? Does it repel red wine spills for example?
(No stiff innuendoes please).

Our 3 piece was done( professionally) from new. No effect on the finish that I am aware of. Not been put to the test so cannot say how effective it is.

Very effective - whilst it doesn't make the fabric waterproof it allows it to shrug off spills which would, on untreated fabric, stain. It certainly doesn't affect the feel of the fabric except to not soak up sweat.
If, as I suspect, the covering is Dralon it's not essential, because Dralon is already treated with a silicone proofing agent.

(The material I used is called Polyviscose in a fetching Black & White tartan. Certainly kept me occupied on these long winters evenings, saved a good deal of money that I couldnt justify spending this season. A lesson in patience, because, by jingo, is abit tedious at about 2 hours per cushion).

Spayed all my upholstery when the boat was new, tried on one small cushion first and couldn't see any difference feel wise to the untreated cushion.

Make sure you spray in a really well ventilated area and best to wear a face mask. I left them off the boat for a day or two to fully dry / air. Bought three spay cans and used 2 1/2 on main cabin cushions.

We used to treat suites, chairs etc with a similar product (Guardsman Fabricote) when I was in the furniture trade. It coats the fibre so most stains and dirt can't be absorbed. Didn't stop anything getting dirty or surface stained but, as it was was mainly between the fibres, it would clean better. Do read the instructions for stain removal though and don't re-treat unless clean at the time.
