Scimitar 21ft Saro one design

Hi all!
I just got a Saro Scimitar 21, registered in year 1964. Still needs some work on the surfaces, but I hope to have it ready to sail the Solent as soon as possible.
Is there any owner of one of these that can share experience with the boat?

cheers!

Hello, Love to have some more details so i can update my database on the surviving boats. Mine is Registered number 5, Sunshine. Converted to gaff rig back in the eighties. Is yours the one that was for sale in Essex and had been resprayed at some time ? Blue sails ? Regards. David

Hi David ..
Yes .. it is the one from Essex ... I thaught that at the price it was worth a punt ...
I have pressure washed the inside which was rather grotty .. but now I can see what I have got ...
I have knocked out one of the keel bolts .. and apart from some corrosion on the threads was in good condition ... they are 16mm round bar .. galvanised .. I think I will replace the bolts with 316 stainless threaded bar ...
One thing that concernes me is that the area above the lead of the keel and the water line sounds hollow ... I will contact the Laurent Giles office to srr if they have any drawings that I can refer to ... Chris ...

I can't remember where I saw the drawing, but the hull and keel are seperate mouldings so they would stack in less space for transport. The keel part of the hull is certainly hollow since it's a glassfibre moulding. Here's the drawing of the lead keel itself, and the description from the sales brochure if that helps.

Hello David ... Thank you for the drawing of the keel and the description .... it all makes sense now ...Tha bolt that I removed was the through bolt to the rudder bracket ... I'll have to lift the hull and allow the keel to drop ... I hope the cast in bolts are not too seized because if they start to turn it will be quite a challenge to get them out ... Regards Chris ...

Does anyone have the side mounted outboard motor chair ? I'd love some photos, or to buy it from you, or to get a copy of the rest of the drawing as shown here. Many thanks. David

There is a gaff rigged Scimitar somewhere on the Thames estuary. I've tried to contact the owners with no success. Does anyone know about her and who they are ? Thanks.
