Hi My family and I are considering wintering at Marina di Cala del Sole . I have had two quote, the Ragusa quote is 5797 euro for twelve months

and the Cala del Sol was 3800 Euro for twelve months

As I will be flying back to the UK for long periods I do need the security on a safe marina.

Which would you recommend

Kind regards Nick

May I suggest that you read the reviews on Trip Advisor for Marina di cale del sole? Having actively spent 2 months there this winter before camping to Ragusa (personal reasons) I can say that the marineiros at Licata are excellent at checking boats especially in strong winds but the marina is not fenced in if that's what you're looking for? Here in Ragusa the staff are likewise on hand and the marina is secure.
By all means pm me if I can answer any questions :)

You could consider a winter berth at Ragusa, the prices are very good for a winter contract and if you have to go back to the UK then Malta is only a day sail from SW Sicily. Unlike Italy mooring fees are reasonable during the summer and the budget airlines go there. The only downside of that plan is that some of the marinas on Malta suffer from surge which is bad news for an unattended boat and the marineros dont help. but 'on the hard' prices are not bad

We are currently berthed in Licata but have been away from the boat since mid Oct. If one of your criteria is to be able to fly back to the UK frequently I'd look at airport access and where the flights go to.

Marina di Ragusa is close to Comiso, so far as I know that is only served by Ryan Air to Stansted or Alitalia indirect to the UK. The staff at Ragusa may take you to that airport, worth checking. If you need to go to another airport MdR is a difficult place to travel to and from by public transport.

Licata has a direct bus service, about 2 hrs, to Catania (Fontanarossa) airport where several carriers provide both direct and indirect services to the UK. Palermo Airport is an indirect bus service from Licata, have to go via Palermo city, c. 3hrs. Comiso isnt far away, I didnt look at transport though as Stansted doesnt work well for us.

Marina di Ragusa does have direct bus links to Catania airport. You can view the timetable at http://www.etnatrasporti.it There is another option of getting the local bus to Ragusa and then go from Ragusa to Catania. Finally there are yachties who have a car share and offer to take people to the airport. Hence in terms of airport access both marinas are similar.
